SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The International Olympic Committee and Japanese government made an historic announcement Tuesday to postpone the 2020 summer Olympic games in Tokyo due to the coronavirus.Tuesday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe confirmed on Twitter that the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic games have been delayed until no later than summer 2021.The announcement left several San Diegan Olympic hopefuls dashed of any immediate Olympic dreams."It's kind of hard to wrap your head around it because you have been training so long for this one moment," Allison Halverson said back in Februaray.Her tone changed Tuesday."I was kind of like, 'Ok. That's good to know.' Now I can kind of refocus and figure out how to train for that," Halverson said.Swimmer Michael Chadwick says the lack of open pools is sidelining any training, making competition right now even less of a possibility."Too much has happened too quickly for us to really understand what the ramifications of it all are," Chadwick said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The next time you hop in your car and drive through North Park, you could encounter one of 18 new traffic circles aimed to slow down drivers and promote caution and awareness. The executive director of SANGAG, Hasan Ikhrata, spoke Wednesday about the status of 18 intersection makeovers that include roundabouts similar one off Landis and Utah."It's obvious cars and bikes don't mix well together, especially if there's speeding involved so to overcome these we try our best to do things like this, but also make sure where we can, separate bikes from traffic so residents can bike without fear of being hit by a car," Ikhrata said.So far, million has been dropped for the Georgia Meade & Landis Bikeway project, funded by TransNet. Construction for the new additions are halfway done and although some neighbors aren't so keen about the new roadways, "people who want to go fast do go fast still, they still race. They have enough room to almost go straight through the circle." Others like 11-year North Park resident, Andrea, Linan, already feel more at ease, "traffic on this street especially, people go fast. I do cycling and you just have to be really careful about not getting hit so I don't mind roundabouts."SANDAG said since stay at home orders, the amount of people riding bikes went up 12%. SANDAG's executive director said despite conflicting arguments regarding the amount spent on the Bikeway project, "we have the data to support investing more in the Bikeway program, and I hope San Diego will have a connected network that's safe for our residents."The project has been in the works since 2013. Front line workers will be first to be vaccinated, followed by long-term care facility residents and employees.Doses from the county's allotment were sent to UC San Diego Medical Center and Rady Children's Hospital on Monday and Tuesday.A separate batch of vaccines was sent to Naval Medical Center San Diego and Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton on Monday.The Department of Defense chose both locations as hubs where some service members will be vaccinated.In a statement released last week, the DOD outlined their vaccine distribution plans. They will follow the CDC guidelines and will prioritize those who provide direct medical care, followed by critical national security units, and then deployed forces.The vaccine arrival comes as military hospitals in San Diego are also seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The man who jumped on stage during a Taylor Swift concert and assaulted a security guard was charged Monday with a deadly beating in the Midway area, police said. Christian Ewing, 29, was charged for the death of 57-year-old Gregory Freeman, according to SDPD Homicide Lt. Anthony Dupree. Officers got a 911 call about an assault near the Interstate 5 overpass at 3900 Rosecrans St. the evening of Dec. 5. A witness said a victim was on the ground and another man was hitting him with an object, investigators reported. He died three days later of his injuries. The suspect fled the scene, police said.Ewing was arrested on Dec. 21 for a parole violation and rebooked Monday on suspicion of murder. In 2015, Ewing jumped on stage at Petco Park as Taylor Swift was performing. Swift’s personal security guard, David Durkin, told Ewing he was not allowed to be in the area. During a struggle, Ewing seriously injured Durkin. Prosecutors previously said Ewing had several arrests in multiple states, an active warrant for a theft-related offense out of Florida, and a felony conviction for transporting drugs from out-of-state. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The market may soon be looking up for San Diegans hoping to buy a home. A new report by Zillow found that many economists believe the housing market in the West will turn into a buyer’s market by 2020.According to the housing site, home-values have appreciated faster in 2018 than in 2017. That coupled with a fall in inventory means that sellers are in the driver’s seat.At least for now. Zillow says recent data suggest the balance may be starting to tilt back toward buyers. Home growth is slowing in more than half the nation’s 35 largest metros and price cuts are common.Even in San Diego, where the cost of living is well above average, 20 percent of listings saw a price cut in June.A separate report from Zillow found that the increase in home values has also slowed throughout San Diego.Three out of four economists surveyed say the national housing marked could see a shift to a buyer’s market by 2020.Those same economists say the Midwest will be the first to see the shift, beginning as early as 2019, followed by the Northeast, South and West in 2020.“For the past several years, home sellers held all the cards at the negotiating table, fielding multiple offers while buyers faced stiff competition and a fast-moving market,” said Zillow Senior Economist Aaron Terrazas.Over the next year, Zillow expects the rate of appreciation to slow to 4.7 percent in San Diego, where the median home price is 4,100.“Conditions are starting to show signs of easing up, but the effects of years of limited construction still linger. Inventory is still falling on an annual basis, and home values are growing well above their historic pace.
