He recommends staying home for 24 hours when you have a cold without a fever.If you have a fever, isolate for up to six days or until you've been fever free for a full 24 hours. If you're coughing or sneezing more than four times in an hour, you should probably stay home and see a doctor.“We haven't had a metric like that before, so we're going to experiment with that data point and see what it does to our workforce and our clinic infection control over this season,” said Joy.Joy also reminds people to get the flu shot.A study in the New England Journal of Medicine found people who got the vaccine had 25% fewer episodes of upper respiratory infections than those who didn't. That means fewer sick days from work and fewer doctor visits.The hope is that COVID-19 measures like handwashing, mask wearing and watching your distance will lead to fewer respiratory infections overall. But should you experience those symptoms, you may be directed to urgent care centers instead.The idea is to keep doctor offices sterile, so people with chronic conditions and other issues feel safe coming in to see their primary care physician.“In the last couple of months, people that have been putting off their care, I just diagnosed a gentleman, new diagnosis with pancreatic cancer,” said Joy. “We're detecting breast cancer, heart disease blood pressure that is out of control.”Urgent care centers are equipped with personal protective equipment and are typically faster, and cheaper than a visit to a hospital emergency room. The new guidance contradicts previous guidance, which recommended closing schools during periods of substantial community transmission.The updated guidance said that extended school closures are harmful to children and can lead to severe learning loss, and the need for in-person instruction is particularly important for students with heightened behavioral needs.During an event with educators on Wednesday, Trump said not only should students return to the classroom, but he decried hybrid schedules, which incorporates a blend of in-person and virtual learning. Proponents of hybrid schedules say that they allow for students to have some in-person learning while opening more classroom space for social distancing.But the president is not a fan.“The concept of every other day seems a little ridiculous, right?” Trump said. “If you are going to do it, you do it. If you are not going to do it, the concept of going back even from a management standpoint from the school, every other day seems very strange.”Trump once again called on Congress to pass 5 billion in education funding, which House Democrats have also pushed for as part of a broader stimulus plan. While Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the White House is open to doing a piecemeal approach to a stimulus package, House Democrats have pushed for an all-encompassing bill.Some of the funding for schools could be used to help districts with additional costs associated with mitigating the risk of the virus.Trump said that the funds should follow the students. As the world waits for deliveries of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine, the pharmaceutical company is having to adjust their target after hitting supply chain obstacles, according to the Wall Street Journal.“Scaling up the raw material supply chain took longer than expected,” a company spokeswoman told the WSJ.Pfizer and partner BioNTech SE had hoped to ship out 100 million doses of their vaccine by the end of the year, that has now reportedly been cut to estimates of about 50 million.Two doses are needed for each person to be vaccinated.Pfizer did not elaborate on where the raw material shortfalls happened. They did say some raw materials in early production earlier this year did not meet their standards and they had to fix the issue.After the WSJ’s report, Pfizer’s stock price dropped and the S&P 500 fell slightly.The United Kingdom has granted emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine, and is expected to start administering doses soon. The FDA in the U.S. is considering a similar authorization, which could come later in December.As part of Operation Warp Speed, the U.S. Government has purchased 100 million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine, with an option to buy more.Roughly 20 million of those doses were expected by the end of the year once the FDA granted emergency use authorization. No word on how Pfizer’s shipping delays could impact this number.Pfizer says their production lines in the U.S. and Europe are complete and they are “confident” they will supply the targeted number of doses in early 2021. 1524

AURORA, Colo. – Police confirmed Monday afternoon that the man they shot and killed early Monday morning is believed to have shot and killed another man who’d broken into his home minutes earlier.The police shooting happened around in Aurora, Colo. Officers had been called the house on reports that a man had broken into the home.“Officers arrived to a very chaotic and violent scene,” Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz wrote in a news release issued Monday afternoon.Metz said officers who arrived at the scene heard gunshots inside the home and ran into an armed man. An officer shot the man, who died at an area hospital.After clearing the scene, according to Metz, officers found a juvenile injured inside and a man shot dead on the bathroom floor. The child was taken to a hospital for “serious, but non-life-threatening injuries” caused by the intruder, he said.Both men’s identities will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office, Metz said. The officer who shot the resident of the home is on standard paid leave.The investigation into the shooting will be conducted by the Aurora Police Major Crimes Unit, the Denver Police Department and the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
