John Pregulman is on a mission to ensure that those who survived the Holocaust are not forgotten. Pregulman is occupied with documenting the estimated 200,000 still-living Holocaust survivors. “Their biggest fear is that they’ll be forgotten,” Pregulman said as he was surrounded by hundreds of portraits he took of survivors taped and pinned onto four walls.Among those Pregulman has documented was Mildred Ferro, 93, who said she was age 11 when she moved to the United States. Pregulman recently visited a senior living community to capture Ferro’s picture and story.Pregulman’s became motivated when he learned that many survivors worry that their story will be forgotten in history. What started as a one-time gig, taking photos at an event outside of Chicago five years ago, has turned into almost an obsession.“I took their pictures, they shared their stores, and I just became completely enthralled with these amazing people who I expected to be sad and unable to get past what had happened, and yet they were the happiest most positive and accomplished people I had met in a very long time,” he said.In hearing their stories, Pregulman and his wife soon learned a disturbing statistic: roughly one-in-three Holocaust survivors live in poverty.“Dignity had to be the centerpiece of everything,” his wife Amy Israel Pregulman said. “They deserve that.”They’ve started a non-profit called 1407

JORDAN, Minn. — Police officers in one Minnesota town got a good laugh Thursday.Someone called for a welfare check on an adult man in one of the local neighborhoods standing motionless outside and near a home wearing no coat in the cold and hugging a pillow.Keep in mind temperatures are below freezing in Minnesota in February. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered that the adult male in need of possible assistance was actually a cardboard cutout of MyPillow CEO and inventor Mike Lindell. The caller wasn't about to go outside and get too close to investigate what they thought was a deranged person standing outside in the cold hugging a pillow, so it was better to call the police. 707

INDIANAPOLIS — Going back to work after giving birth is never easy. One Indianapolis mother had to endure not only everyday life with a newborn but controversy with pumping breast milk at her place of employment.Katrina Culhane returned from maternity leave in July of after having her son, Hunter. She worked for the Indiana BMV's central office in downtown Indianapolis. To continue breastfeeding, she needed to pump at work."I thought being the state they would have a plan for me," Culhane said.Culhane says her options on location to pump were extremely limited. One choice was to go up several floors to another department where another mother was often using a room. Her second choice was to reserve a conference room."They kept promising it to employee relations that they were going to have a room and they never had a room," Culhane said. "It wasn't OK that I had to constantly pump in the bathroom."Culhane says she felt frustration from her bosses when needing to adjust her scheduled breaks to make her reservation in the conference room."I worked hard for them. They treated me like dirt. They made me feel like crap. I just want to go pump," Culhane said. "It was stressful. Every single day...it was so stressful."State law requires the following from state and political agencies:Paid breaks to pump.Reasonable effort to provide a room or other location other than a toilet stall.Reasonable efforts to provide a refrigerator to keep breast milk cold."It is absolutely important for a workplace to support these moms, especially when you are first going back to work," Lauren Duncan, a certified lactation specialist, and Donor Mother Coordinator at The Milk Bank, said.RTV6 reached out to the BMV to get a response to this situation. A spokesperson said Culhane was fired for violating the state's workplace harassment prevention policy. The spokesperson also told RTV6 there are plans to add a private room for mothers to breastfeed on the fourth floor of the building where the BMV is located."I just want to pump for my son," Culhane said. "And I wanted it to be known that no one deserves to be treated like that in the workplace. No one."Culhane denies harassing anyone during her time at the BMV and feels she was fired for complaining about lack of space to pump. The BMV says they do have a private location in the Indiana State Government Center where she worked in accordance with the law and the State's Support for Nursing Mothers Policy, 2479

In a new court-ordered effort to identify potentially thousands of additional immigrant families that the US government separated at the southern border, more than 1,700 cases of possible separation have been found so far.Cmdr. Jonathan White of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps says 1,712 cases with "some preliminary indication of separation" have been referred to US Customs and Border Protection for the next phase of review out of the initial pool of 4,108 children's case files that corps officers combed through. Some of those cases ultimately might not involve separations, White said Friday in a federal court hearing."What we transmit to CBP is solely those cases that have some preliminary indication of separation," White said. "We err on the side of inclusion."The new effort to track down parents and children who were split up at the border is the latest chapter in the ACLU's lawsuit over family separations. While last year a court order in the case from US District Judge Dana Sabraw in San Diego forced the reunification of many immigrant families the government had separated at the border as result of its "zero tolerance" policy, an explosive government watchdog report in January revealed there could be thousands more separated families that officials hadn't previously acknowledged. Sabraw ruled in March that this group should be included in the class action lawsuit over family separations. And in April, the judge approved the government's plan "designed to substantially identify all class members within six months."In total, officials have said they'll need to review some 47,000 files dating to July 1, 2017.Friday, White told Sabraw that the initial phase of case review was going more quickly than he expected. As of Friday, he said, his team has completed preliminary reviews of more than 13,000 files."We started running at this problem. .. .We are ahead of my operation targets that I had set for my own team at this time," White said.Once the Public Health Service team completes its preliminary review, case files with indication of separation then go to CBP and Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further analysis. Then a refined list will go back to the Department of Health and Human Services. As they confirm additional separations, officials will provide a list of parents and children to ACLU attorneys on a rolling basis.Sabraw described the work officials have done so far as "very encouraging" and urged them to provide any confirmed information they have to ACLU attorneys as soon as possible. It's unclear when the first confirmed list could be ready."Our hope is to have a more concrete report with overall timing the next time we report to you on progress," Scott Stewart, an attorney for the government, said in court Friday. In a court filing Thursday, White said HHS is expediting efforts to hire and train a team of data scientists and "scalable teams of record reviewers" to help with the effort. 2980
