SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority announced a 10-year agreement with its airline partners Tuesday to improve transportation access to San Diego International Airport and potentially pave the way for a Metropolitan Transit System trolley route to the airport.The investment pact, totaling more than a half-billion dollars, could eventually fund multiple infrastructure projects to increase transit connections between the city of San Diego and the airport. The agreement includes funding from both the Airport Authority and its associated airlines that serve the San Diego International Airport.The projects, which are not yet approved, could include a multi-modal access road between the city and the airport, which would reduce traffic on Harbor Drive by roughly 45,000 vehicles each day. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to approve million in aid for businesses affected by San Diego County's slide into the most-restrictive purple tier of the state's four-tiered coronavirus monitoring system.Greg Cox and Nathan Fletcher, co-chairs of the County of San Diego's COVID-19 Subcommittee, proposed making million in general funds available to provide relief to businesses negatively impacted by the indoor closures mandated by the purple tier."Due to the massive spike in COVID-19 cases and very concerning increases in hospitalizations we have to take action to slow the spread in San Diego County," they said in a joint statement. "Through no fault of their own, COVID-19 highest risk entities have to stop indoor operations. While we know this step is vital to help slow the spread in our community, we want to step up and help those impacted..."Our goal for the million is to provide relief to restaurants, gyms and other entities that have been directly impacted by the indoor closures due to our county's purple tier status. We want to provide this critical relief to them as our community works to slow the spread and stop the surge of COVID- 19 cases."Funds will also be available for event businesses, such as caterers and party planners.Cox, board chairman, said during Wednesday's virtual special meeting that providing the right critical relief for businesses is a priority."I realize we're in a situation none of us created," he said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Humane Society will make a group of animals displaced by the Camp Fire available for adoption Friday.Earlier this month, the organization's Emergency Response Team deployed to Butte County for 10 days to offer aid to hundreds of animals displaced or otherwise affected by the fire.The team returned to San Diego Dec. 19 with eight dogs and three cats, some of whom received treatment for burns caused by the fire.The owners of the 11 animals surrendered them to the Humane Society because they could no longer care for them. As a result, they will not have an owner seeking to find them once conditions improve in the areas affected by the fire.The Humane Society will put a group of the displaced animals up for adoption at 10 a.m. at its main campus, located at 5500 Gaines St. Available animals include 11-year old shepherd mix Cinnamon, a bonded pair of 6-year old miniature pinscher mixes named Pikachu and Panchie and a 3-year old cat named Sunshine.Residents can view the Humane Society's adoptable animals at sdhumane.org/pet. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County's unadjusted unemployment rate dipped to 3.5 percent in February, with both farm and nonfarm employment showing gains, the California Employment Development Department announced Friday.The county's adjusted unemployment rate sat at 3.8 percent in January, its highest point since the third quarter of 2017. February's unadjusted rate is the same as its revised 2018 unemployment rate, according to the EDD.Nonfarm industries added 9,700 jobs between January and February, with total nonfarm employment increasing from 1,480,100 to 1,489,800. Total farm jobs increased by 400 from 8,100 in January to 8,500 last month.Multiple nonfarm industries showed job gains in the thousands. The professional and business services industry increased by 4,100 jobs, the most of any industry in the county. The trade, transportation and utilities industry decreased the most of any in the county, falling by 2,600 jobs.Year-over-year nonfarm employment increased by 19,900 jobs, from 1,469,900 in February 2018 to 1,489,800 last month. The educational and health services industry showed the largest year-over-year employment gains at 6,900, pacing multiple industries that showed yearly job gains of more than 3,000.Like the county's month-over-month job market, the trade, transportation and utilities industry had the largest year-over-year decrease in job numbers, falling by the same number of jobs from 223,600 in February 2018 to 221,000 last month.
