SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A SWAT team was called to a San Marcos apartment complex Tuesday morning after a man suspected in a stabbing incident barricaded himself in an apartment unit.San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials said deputies were called to an apartment complex in the 200 block of Knoll Road shortly before 2:30 a.m. in response to an argument that escalated into a stabbing.According to sheriff’s officials, deputies arrived to find a 49-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.Officials did not immediately release additional details on the altercation.Responding deputies spotted a man believed to have been involved in the stabbing and attempted to make contact with him, but he ran into an apartment unit and barricaded himself.A SWAT unit surrounded the complex after the man refused to come out.At around 8:30 a.m., sheriff's officials said the man surrendered without incident and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for attempted murder, officials confirmed.Late Tuesday afternoon, sheriff's officials identified the suspect as 20-year-old Saul Resendiz Jr., the victim's son. 1236

Sandy Hook, Orlando, Aurora, Las Vegas, and now Sutherland Springs, Texas. As we struggle to find answers and to come to terms with the reality of mass shootings, one of the key questions is, why?What drives some people to carry out unthinkable attacks? And what do mass shooters tend to have in common?Dr. Richard Cooter is a forensic psychologist at George Washington University. He specializes in mass shootings, and the mind of a killer. “You will have some people who are true psychopaths. That's relatively rare,” he said. “The majority of these folks, and they’re men, they have a grievance of some sort.  It may be real, it may be imagined.  But whatever it is, it is real to them.”An FBI report released in 2014 looked at 160 active shootings and found gunmen almost always acted alone, were usually male, had a wide range of ages, and killed themselves about 40 percent of the time.But what makes a person want to carry out such a horrific crime in the first place? Cooter says something makes them lose empathy and disconnect from their conscience. Often, he says they become overwhelmingly angry.  “They tend to isolate from people and they just ruminate over this grievance and over a period of time they will come to a point they can’t stand it anymore," he said.The Sandy Hook shooter was apparently mad at his mother. The Pulse nightclub shooter who pledged allegiance to ISIS was said to be “angry at the world,” Cooter said.Cooter believes they may let the anger simmer, building until it makes them direct their rage at society.Other shooters are what he would consider highly psychotic and unable to feel remorse.  He points to the shooter who opened fire in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. Doctors testified he had a psychotic mental illness. The gunman who targeted Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords and others was diagnosed with schizophrenia.Cooter says there’s another factor. For the deeply disturbed, a mass shooting can offer instant fame and a way to make their lives seem to have meaning.  “They become famous for a while. They’re usually not around to know it, but that’s the plan,” Cooter said. "There seem to be copycat sorts of things.”Even so, Cooter says there are plenty of people who have deep anger or other hallmarks of a mass shooter, but it’s extremely rare to actually decide to kill scores of innocent people. 2434

"I came the day before and it was 57 degrees," says Walter Frank of Santee. "But I don't mind that it's hot. It gets to 90 degrees, I'm great... I'll go run two miles."Not everyone agrees, and many people were out early trying to get their exercise in before it gets hot. A heat advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. Tuesday for the coast and valleys. On top of the heat, dry and gusty winds are expected in the inland and mountain areas of the county, elevating fire danger.It was 96 degrees in Santee Monday, with a high of 98 expected Tuesday and above average temperatures all week. In the morning, it was still cool enough to get a walk around the lake in, or participate in the other popular early morning activity: Fishing. SAN YSIDRO, California — Migrants rushed the border Sunday morning, forcing the closure of the San Ysidro Port of Entry and several San Diego interstates. Southbound Interstate 5 and 805 closed at State Route 905, forcing drivers to be rerouted on one of the busiest travel days of the year. All north and southbound lanes of the port of entry were also closed to all vehicles and pedestrians, halting traffic. Las Americas Premium Outlets was also shut down due to safety and security. Check out the map below for more:  559

SAN ONOFRE (KGTV) -- Police chased a domestic violence suspect from Los Angeles County to San Diego County Thursday night. The driver, who has family in Tijuana, was believe to be heading to the border, according to our ABC affiliate in L.A.?At one point, the suspect may have ran over a spike strip, slowing him down. Once near the Camp Pendleton area police attempted two pit maneuvers. Shortly after the suspect drove off the freeway and into the brush, where he ultimately turned off the car and exited his vehicle. Police were able to take him into custody around 11:20 p.m. and began to search the vehicle. *This is a developing story. 10News will continue to update as more details unfold.  730
