When cruise lines begin sailing again, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has some guidance. The health agency issued their “framework for resuming safe and responsible cruise ship” operations Friday, ahead of the no-sail order expiring Saturday.The no-sail order, which originally began in April, prohibits cruise ships from carrying 250 passengers in waters subject to US jurisdiction.The CDC said it has identified at least 3,689 coronavirus-related illnesses, and 41 associated deaths, connected to cruise ships. Although the CDC cautions these figures are likely an underestimate.The framework urges a phased approach, and applies to ships that have the capacity to carry at least 250 passengers in waters subject to U.S. jurisdiction.“A phased approach is necessary because of the continued spread of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, risk of resurgence in countries that have suppressed transmission, ongoing concerns related to restarting of cruising internationally, and need for additional time for the cruise industry to test the effectiveness of measures to control potential COVID-19 transmission on board cruise ships with passengers without burdening public health,” a statement from the CDC reads.During the beginning, cruise line operators will have to demonstrate adherence to testing, quarantine and isolation plans, as well as social distancing requirements for passengers and crew members.The CDC says they will help by “establishing a laboratory team dedicated to cruise ships to provide information and oversight of COVID-19 testing,” updating instructions and creating a system to track ship status and passenger cases.Meanwhile, cruise lines will need to build out the capacity and ability to test crew and passengers on a regular basis.In their framework, the CDC says there may be simulated, or mock, voyages with volunteers to test cruise ship operators’ ability to apply COVID-19 mitigation measures.Although the no-sail order will be lifted, Carnival, Royal Caribbean and other cruise lines have already cancelled sailings until 2021. 2083

Vaccines are being developed and could be ready for widespread distribution next year. There is also the financial and jobs concerns in the wake of the pandemic. Many are hoping conversations about economic relief can start up again now that results of the election are becoming clear. The jobs report from October shows unemployment is at 6.9 percent. However, this is still historically high and there are concerns it does not include people who have given up looking for work during a pandemic for various reasons.Racism and social justice issues divided the country earlier this year, leading to large demonstrations in dozens of cities. Strong emotions from both sides motivated some voters. Biden has said he also wants to focus on rejoining international organizations, including the World Health Organization, NATO, and the Paris Climate Accord. Biden has also signaled other top priorities in his first few months; including sending a bill to Congress to repeal liability protections for gun manufacturers and closing background-check loopholes, sending an immigration bill to Congress creating a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants and retaining rights for “dreamers” who were brought to the United States illegally as children, and move to eliminate tax cuts passed under Trump in 2017, according to the Washington Post. With a growing number of Americans getting tattoos, there is also a larger number getting them removed. New technology is allowing the process to be more complete with less scarring and blistering.  In some ways, users believe it can undo bad choices.A recent Harris Poll shows tattoos are particularly prevalent among younger generations. About half of millennials and a third of Gen Xers say they have at least one, compared to just 13 percent of Baby Boomers. One in eight millennials have regrets about at least one tattoo. The men who own and run "ReversaTatt" David Cope and Wesley Henderson, say they are helping people erase those regrets, one laser session at a time.When a person gets a tattoo, it's a memory of the start of a chapter in life.  They can remember the whole experience of choosing the design and the placement.  In some ways, the laser can offer a page turn into a new chapter: one without that tattoo.Two women, Stephanie Goodman and Stephanie Gray, each came to ReversaTatt recently seeking tattoo removal assistance."They all came from different places and they all have different meanings, but I'm going to keep all these ones, they're not going anywhere," explained Gray.  Gray came to ReversaTatt for her first session to remove a design along her neck.  She says the story why it's coming off is private, but she would like this tattoo to disappear."It was a name, yeah, so it's going to be gone," said Gray.After a consultation, Cope points the PiQo laser at her neck and says, "here comes the heat." In 13 seconds, he backs off. The first treatment is done.  While the pain is a bit more intense than getting the tattoo, according to Gray, it's over quickly. "It was nothing," said Gray."The red from this little stripe here is completely gone," said board certified physician assistant David Cope, pulling up his sleeve and pointing at part of his tribal arm band.  Cope said he got his own tattoo when he was in a medical program as part of a pact to finish. Now, years later, he was encouraged by patients to remove the tattoo to understand the procedure better, so he agreed. "This is kind of an ink explosion kind of feeling in your skin, so it's not just something you've felt before," said Cope.Now, on his second session, parts of the tattoo have completely disappeared and others have started to fade. Getting a tattoo removed by their PiQo laser requires short sessions, a month or so apart, five to 12 times over. Laser tattoo removal clients are 70 percent female, according to recent studies. A Harris Poll of U.S. adults surveyed online in 2015 showed 47 percent of millennials and 36 percent of Gen Xers have at least one, and they're exponentially more likely than their elders to have multiple.  Tattoo removal clinics have grown by 400 percent in the last decade.Click here for FDA suggestions regarding health and safety regarding tattoo removal.ReversaTatt says the laser they use does not cause blistering or scarring like previous methods. While families prepare to sit down together this Thanksgiving, there are many people across the country who aren't as fortunate. Charities and homeless shelters that normally prepare a warm Thanksgiving meal for those in need are having to make some changes this year due to the pandemic."The importance of Thanksgiving is not these big celebrations with the bells and whistles -- of course it is incredible to be able to be there with one another -- but it's really about providing that meal for those who are experiencing homelessness. And so, we really focused on how to still be able to provide that meal during Thanksgiving to those people," says Nicole Tschetter with the Denver Rescue Mission.The Denver Rescue Mission usually has a large banquet and celebration with the Colorado Governor and other prominent members of the community coming out to bring attention to homelessness, and serve hot meals to those in need. This year, the organization is scaling down, serving meals at two smaller locations."The people that are eating there are the people that are staying at those specific locations," says Tschetter.Tschetter still expects the Denver Rescue Mission will serve several thousand meals this Thanksgiving, just in a safe, physically distant manner.Union Station Homeless Services in Los Angeles County is serving many of their Thanksgiving meals "to go.""It's both a to-go meal for the pre-prepared ones or a fix-it-yourself, kind of like a grocery box full of lunch. So, whichever is the easiest for people. We want people to be able to share meals with their friends or family in their safe bubble and this provides two opportunities for people to get food," says Union Station Homeless Services CEO Anne Miskey.Miskey says they have fewer volunteers than normal this year, but the need they're seeing is great. A need not just for food or shelter but also human kindness."How do we recognize other people’s humanity? How do we have touch points even if we can’t physically touch people or get closer than 6 feet? How do we continue to show people we care, we’re here, we continue to help and support you," says Miskey.Tschetter recalls the story of a prior guest of the Denver Rescue Mission."It makes the world of a difference to be able to sit down and have food and, you know, I don’t remember the last time I had a warm meal and to just feel loved and feel a sense of dignity and a sense of normalcy is just such a huge thing for people who are experiencing homelessness," says Tschetter.These organizations are recognizing the importance of giving back and appreciating all we have to be thankful for in the midst of a pandemic. 2663
