Wasserburger works for a microbiology company. He was in Wuhan, China on business when the outbreak began. He hasn’t shown signs of the virus, but with two cases now confirmed among evacuees at Miramar, his wife in Omaha is a little worried on his behalf.“Even when you’re trying to keep a positive attitude, which he has done, there’s still going to be those days when you’re second guessing, “Could I be that person that comes down with that horrible thing next?” Fauniel Wasserburger said.The evacuees are allowed to mingle with each other in quarantine, although they’re supposed to stay six feet apart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Just days after her 97th birthday, a San Diego woman was honored for being a trailblazer in the Marine Corps. Sgt. Maj. Grace Carle's love for her country is apparent in her impressive resume. The retired Marine served during WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam."She's always been a strong woman. She did what she was told to do, and she did it with honor. She wanted to be proud of what she did," said Jennie Larsen, Carle's niece. Carle was one of nine siblings and joined the Marine Corps when she was 20. She's now the last living Sergeant Major of the U.S. Marine Corps Women's Reserve and was one of only six women to hold the position. "When she went in she worked hard to get all of her advancements, and it's things like giving the women a chance to do jobs that the men had been doing and showing that the women were capable of holding these same positions and doing the same type of work," said Larsen.Carle was recently admitted to Somerset Subacute and Care, where social worker Lisa Abbott met the retired Marine. "When they told me she was a big deal in the Marines, I started googling her!" Abbott said.Carle will soon be entering hospice care, so Abbott decided they needed to honor her. "Somebody like Ms. Carle who's done so much for our country, and for America, and for women in general, this is going to be probably our last chance to thank her and honor her. While she's with us, we're going to take that opportunity," said Abbott. They held a ceremony for Carle at the facility, which included taps by Bugles Across America."The Marine life was her life, and she was very proud to serve this country, you couldn't have asked for a better person," said Larsen.Larsen says her aunt served in the Marine Corps for over 30 years. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Many local restaurants are having a hard time finding outdoor patio heaters.The difficulty comes as restaurant owners in San Diego County prepare to close their indoor dining areas and take operations outside when new COVID-19 related restrictions take effect Saturday. The county is moving from the state's red to the purple tier following an increase in COVID-19 cases. The purple tier has the toughest COVID-19 related rules.The owners of Sisters Pizza in Hillcrest say they own four outdoor heaters and recently purchased two more from Amazon three weeks ago, one of the last left at the time. They are due to arrive any day."We paid about four times the price of our original space heater," owner Emily Green Lake said. "Right now, the heaters are really what it's all about in keeping people wanting to come back to your spot, or that second glass of wine or that dessert, and all of those extras are what's keeping businesses afloat right now."Premier Patio Heating in Oceanside, which rents out patio heaters, is out. Eddie Essey, vice president of operations, said they have a backlog of about 200 orders from restaurants and hotels. Anyone looking to get some from them now has a six-week wait."I'm saying six weeks," Essey said. "Honestly, that's a little optimistic. Realistically, I don't expect my supply chain to be where I want it to be until March or April."He's putting new orders on a waitlist but advising the customer to keep looking and trying other suppliers."Restaurants are struggling enough as it is that I don't want them to be missing out on income on their patios every night just waiting on me to get a shipment in," he said. "Everyone needs more patio heaters. People that already have some need more, people that don't have any, need some."Many restaurants told ABC 10News off-camera that they could not find any patio heaters and are still looking.
