Guadalajara had been enjoying a sweaty summer for the past few weeks until the weekend brought a shocking surprise. The Mexican city woke up Sunday morning to more than 3 feet of ice in some areas after a heavy hailstorm swept through the region. As government officials scrambled to contain the damage and clear up roads, residents captured jaw-dropping footage of vehicles and residences swallowed by ice.Enrique Alfaro Ramirez, the governor of Jalisco, of which Guadalajara is the capital, said he'd never witnessed scenes like those he saw Sunday morning."Hail more than a meter high, and then we wonder if climate change exists," he said on Twitter. The government of Jalisco has been working with the Mexican Army and Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque authorities to clean and remove hail from all public roads, the governor said, as well as support citizens whose homes were affected.Ramirez said Sunday afternoon there had not been any reported injuries or fatalities. So, how did this happen?Low pressure extending south from the US and Mexico border had been forecast to contribute to developing storms along the boundary separating different air masses, CNN Meteorologist Michael Guy said."Once these storms developed, all the ingredients came together for there to be this strange hailstorm over Guadalajara," he said. The result -- accumulations of more than 3 feet of hail in some areas across the region, Guy said."The last storm along the front died out and created an outflow boundary," and the city's mountainous location helped a new storm rapidly develop, Guy added. The city is nearly 5,000 feet above sea level and usually maintains a temperate climate, Guy said. The summer months are often rainy and severe weather isn't unheard of, because of the city's elevation. The rainy season is considered June through September, Guy said."However, this was a case where atmospheric and topographic ingredients came into play to cause a freakish hail storm," he said. 1981

How would you like to major in beer? That's right, you can now get a degree in brewing. With craft beer now a multi-billion dollar industry, we're learning more students are now studying the science of suds. Among those students is Chris Thibodeau, who recently graduated from Metropolitan State University in Denver, with a degree in brewery operations.“For the love of beer," says Thibodeau of the reason he decided on this major. Thibodeau says he's drawn to the process of making beer, as well as the beer community.A retired United States Air Force veteran, Thibodeau has turned his love of beer into a second career. He says that the brewery program is just as difficult as military life.“It's not just drinking beer and having a party,” he said. “It’s hard work but it's rewarding in the end.”As the craft beer industry continues to grow, there's now a growing number of colleges across the country offering what you could call "brewology" degrees.“Honestly, you get an incredible grounding in every aspect of what it takes to operate a brewery, what it means to make beer, what it takes to sell beer,” said Ethan Tsai, an MSU Denver beer industry program instructor. Tsai says brewing is a science. He also makes the curriculum sound like more of a headache than a hangover.“The microbiology that you need to know or understand to brew beer, the chemistry involved in that, its fairly extensive,” Tsai said. Four years of studying mathematical equations and malting barley has paid dividends for Thibodeau, as he recently received his degree during a special veteran’s graduation ceremony at the MSU Denver campus. He also accepted a part-time position at Tivoli Brewing Company in Denver.“This brewery program has been amazing,” he said. “Just the insight to all the different aspects of brewing and preparing us for any situation we might encounter in a brewery.”More veterans seem to share Thibodeau's passion for studying brewing science. Tsai says 15 percent of the students in MSU Denver's brewery operations program are US veterans. 2059

Ian and Denise Feltham, a couple from the UK, made vacation plans based on an Airbnb listing for a property that apparently didn't exist. The Felthams' trip to the Spanish island Ibiza included superluxurious accommodations for £9,610 (about ,800) for two weeks in a VIP penthouse, complete with a Turkish bath, hot tub and marble-decked terrace. The dog-friendly listing -- the Felthams were traveling with their two Yorkshire terriers -- seems to have been based on a real apartment. Sort of.Photos of the Airbnb listing, removed following 555
