SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- This Saturday's inauguration of a new president in Mexico was the topic of a forum Thursday at the University of San Diego. Experts and policy makers from both sides of the border shared their thoughts on what the new presidency will mean to the future of the relationship between the United States and Mexico."So much of what happens in Mexico doesn't stay in Mexico and so much of what happens in the United States happens along the U.S-Mexico border," said USD Professor David Shirk, who helped organize Thursday's forum.Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will become the first person to lead Mexico from the political left in several decades after a landslide victory in July elections. He ran on a platform of populist reforms."He's traditionally been a strong supporter of the rights of migrants and respecting their human rights and caring for them," said Tony Wayne, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Mexico from 2011-2015 and attended Thursday's event. He's currently a Public Policy Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Institute."They're going to have to try to pick things up as quickly as they can. Nobody wants a repeat of the kind of incident that you had a few days ago at the border," Wayne said, referring to the clashes between Central American migrants and Border Patrol agents near the San Ysidro border crossing Sunday.Wayne and Shirk share some optimism that Mexico's new administration will be able to find common ground with President Trump, despite their differences on policy. Wayne points out that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be traveling to Mexico the day after Lopez Obrador's inauguration. Shirk says the two presidents have already formed a bond based on similar styles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three men were arrested in Tijuana for the brutal murder of three teens in Mexico, including two from San Diego. The three suspects, identified only as Fabricio, Esteban Manuel and Alejandro were arrested at an unknown time, authorities in Mexico say. 17-year-old Christopher Alexis Gomez and 18-year-old Juan Suarez Ojeda were found shot to death in Tijuana on November 25. Both teenagers attended O'Farrell Charter School in Encanto. Another teen believed to be Ojeda’s friend was also killed. RELATED: Two San Diegans, Mexican teen shot to death in TijuanaGomez’s cousin, Katheryn Garcia, said the two were likely tortured in different locations before being killed execution-style in front of a housing complex. Garcia said her cousin planned to head to a barbecue in Ensenada on Friday. Investigators believe all three teenagers were taken from an apartment complex at gunpoint before being killed. It’s still unknown why the teens may have been targeted. Gomez's family sent 10News the following statement: “As a family we are very conflicted by the events and are still hurting, we miss him dearly and just feel a bit of comfort to know that the people responsible have been caught and that our sweet Alex is getting a bit of justice.”A GoFundMe page was set up to help Gomez’s and Suarez-Ojeda’s families with funeral costs and expenses.According to reports, murders in Tijuana hit a record number in 2018, topping out at more than 2,000. 1476

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Padres kept their season alive Thursday with a come from behind win against the St. Louis Cardinals.The Padres lost the first game of the wild card series, but Thursday’s win forces a third game against the Cardinals.“Feeling incredible,” Padres fan Chris Pekos said after the game. “As a native San Diegan, I’ve loved The Pardes forever. We’ve waited a long time for a huge win like this.”Pekos was one of many Padres fans that watched the game in one of the downtown restaurants near Petco Park. However, large crowds, typically expected during a make-or-break game, were noticeably absent, likely due to the pandemic and social distancing rules.The Padres play the Cardinals in game three on Friday. 743
