Kim Reynolds has signed an executive order granting convicted felons the right to vote, ending Iowa’s place as the only remaining state to broadly deny voting rights to felons.The Republican governor signed the order Wednesday after promising in June that she would take such action.Reynolds says she’ll continue to press the Legislature to pass a constitutional amendment restoring felon voting rights, which couldn't be reversed by a future governor. She proposed that last year but couldn’t get Republican state senators to support it.The executive order restores the right to vote for Iowans who have already completed their felony sentences. It requires residents to complete any prison, probation, parole, or special sentence.The order excludes automatic restoration for more serious crimes, such as murder, requiring those people to seek individual restoration but does not require repayment of victim restitution before they could vote."Today we take a significant step forward in acknowledging the importance of redemption, second chances and the need to address inequalities in our justice system,” said Reynolds. “The right to vote is the cornerstone of society and the free republic in which we live. Del Mar, Calif. (KGTV)- California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a series of gun bills into law Friday, including a bill that will prohibit gun and ammunition shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The bill was authored by State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-78)."People have the right to continue to buy guns at private establishments. The state just shouldn't have a role in facilitating the flow of guns into neighborhoods where children are killed," Gloria told 10News in an interview shortly after returning from the bill signing in Sacramento.Gloria was inspired to act by anti-gun violence advocates who began protesting the Crossroads of the West Gun Show, held five times each year at the Fairgounds. Groups such as "Never Again CA" began the protests shortly after the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida.Crossroads President Tracy Olcott told 10News the company plans to sue the stop the law from taking effect. "Gun shows are not the place where gun violence is created. DENVER, Colo. — A toddler, child, and three adults died in a house fire in Denver where arson and homicide are suspected, according to initial reports from the Denver Fire Department and Denver Police Department.Around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, a Denver police officer called the fire department to report smoke along the 5300 block of N. Truckee Street, said Capt. Greg Pixely with the Denver Fire Department. This call was followed shortly afterward with several residents calling 911 about a fire in the neighborhood, which is near the southeast corner of Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.Pixley said police arrived to the home, located at 5312 Truckee Drive, around 2:55 a.m. and made a valiant effort to try to help the people still inside from the "very significant fire."He said the officer who attempted to rescue people from the home was pushed back due to the heat from the fire.Pixley said according to initial reports, a toddler, child and three adults died in the fire and all five were found on the lower part of the home. Three people who had been on the second story of the building were able to evacuate on their own. Pixley said firefighters reported that the individuals jumped from the second story. Their injuries are unknown.DPD Division Chief Joe Montoya said evidence indicates this was an arson, so police will investigate the case along with the fire department. DENVER (AP) — Authorities have arrested a Colorado man they say held two roofing-company salesmen at gunpoint who had been knocking on doors in his neighborhood. Police told KUSA-TV that both salesmen were wearing blue polo shirts with a local roofing company logo when Scott Gudmundsen forced them to the ground Thursday. The 65-year-old Gudmundsen told police he thought they were members of a far-left-leaning group known as Antifa. Police determined the two workers were doing nothing wrong and arrested Gudmundsen. In a letter, Colorado State University university president Joyce McConnell, athletic director Joe Parker, and head football coach Steve Addazio addressed the situation."Our student is a young man of color, while the perpetrator is white," the letter read. "Regardless of what investigators learn or reasons the perpetrator gives, we know this: Our student got up Thursday morning, worked out with his team, then showered, dressed, and went to work.
