BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Wednesday China and the United States should make joint efforts to push forward cooperation on clean energy and climate change in a substantial way.     Wen said such cooperation is important work and in the interests of both countries and the world. He said the two countries should advance cooperation in this area to bring benefit to the human beings and future generations.     Wen made the remarks when meeting with participants of the Strategic Forum for U.S.-China Clean Energy Cooperation that began in Beijing Wednesday. The forum will last to Friday.     The forum was co-sponsored by the Chinese think tank China Institute of Strategy and Management and the Brookings Institution of the United States. Participants include Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and high-ranking officials from both governments. China's Prime Minister Wen Jiabao(R2) talks with the US delegation of Forum on Strategic China-US Clean Energy Co-operation led by former US vice President Albert Gore(L2) in Beijing, Oct. 21, 2009U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu will deliver video-taped address at the meeting Thursday.     Wen said since China and the United States are both major energy producers and consumers, the two countries share common interests in developing clean energy and addressing climate changes. He said bilateral cooperation in this area has strategic significance and broad prospect.     Wen said the two sides should earnestly implement the agreement on the 10-year energy and environment cooperation framework they signed in June, 2008.     He called for the governments, enterprises and researching institutes of both countries to join effort for this end.     Wen said energy efficiency and environment protection are both a basic strategy of China to achieve sustainable economic and social development and a major measure to cope with climate changes.     The American guests made positive comments on the efforts that China has made in developing clean energy and addressing climate changes.     They expressed the wish that the two countries should set up common targets and carry out constructive, practical cooperation in this respect.

BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Friday that China is committed to fully tackling climate change and pledged contribution to the international cooperation in this regard.     Wen made the remarks while meeting with the foreign representatives who attended the 9th annual conference of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED). SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Visiting U.S. President Barack Obama said here Monday that Shanghai and Chicago can learn from each other especially on clean energy.     He made the remarks during a dialogue with Chinese students at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. It is his first trip to China since taking office in January.     "It's a terrific opportunity for us to learn from each other," he said.     "In the United States we are learning how to develop buildings that use much less energy and that are much more energy-efficient. I noticed in Shanghai many new buildings are growing up. It's important to incorporate these new technologies so that each building is energy-efficient when it comes to lighting, when it comes to heating," he said.     Clean energy issue is going to be a major focus in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, he said.     Shanghai and Chicago have been sister cities since 1985.

  

WELLINGTON, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key agreed during a meeting Monday to actively explore new ways to advance cooperation between the two countries. Li said during the meeting that in recent years, China and New Zealand have expanded cooperation in many areas such as politics, economy and culture.     He said they also have kept good communications and coordination on major global and regional issues. The smooth implementation of the China-New Zealand free trade agreement has helped bilateral trade surge, Li said. Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (R) shakes hands with New Zealand Prime Minister John Key in Wellington, New Zealand, Nov. 2. 2009.    New Zealand was the first developed nation to wrap up WTO entrance talks with China, the first developed country to recognize China as a market economy, and the first developed nation to sign a free trade agreement with China.     The development of China-New Zealand comprehensive cooperative relations suits the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries and is conducive to peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia Pacific region, Li said.     He said respecting and caring for each other's core interests and major concerns are key to a stable development of bilateral ties.     Li said China is willing to work with New Zealand to actively explore mutually beneficial cooperation in sustainable development and cultural exchanges and to enhance coordination in multilateral organizations and on major international and regional issues in a bid to bring bilateral ties to a new level.     Key said New Zealand values its comprehensive cooperative relationship with China. He said the smooth implementation of the bilateral free trade agreement has benefited New Zealand a lot.     The prime minister said he looked forward to visiting China and attending the Shanghai Expo next year. New Zealand has spent five times as much on the Shanghai Expo as on the last Aichi Expo, an evidence of New Zealand's high regard and expectations for relations with China, he said.     The New Zealand government respects China's positions on issues concerning its core interests such as Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang, and sticks to the one-China policy, Key said.     Li arrived in New Zealand on Sunday after concluding an official visit to Australia. His three-nation tour will also take him to Papua New Guinea.
