BARRON COUNTY, Wis. - CNN has obtained the dispatch log for the 911 call placed from the home of missing teen Jayme Closs’s parents, James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46, in Barron County, Wisconsin.During a 911 call shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, the dispatcher heard a disturbance in the background. No one spoke directly to the dispatcher. BUCKEYE, Arizona — The pundits, politicians and political analysts have made clear what they think of post-election transition the country is enduring, but what do typical Americans think?To find out, we traveled to Buckeye, Arizona to meet with up with a group of retirees who actively watch the political process, but are far from any polished pundit. They are diverse and consist of new voters who voted Donald Trump for the first time as well as former Republicans who switched to Joe Biden this election.“I think if we don’t discuss it, we can never heal,” Rosanna Gallagher, a Biden supporter, said as she hosted a socially distanced conversation on her back porch.Marty Paulson and Chris Halsey are two Trump supporters not afraid to share their thoughts.“I accept that Joe Biden will be president,” Paulson said disappointingly.Halsey is more reluctant.“Not until he concedes is the election over,” Halsey insisted to the group.“That doesn’t mean squat,” Richard Westermann, a Biden voter, said in response.Different SourcesOne thing you learn quickly when observing this group is their opinions are based on what they read.“I read everything I can,” Gallagher said.Gallagher, like the other Biden supporters here, trusts traditional news outlets like CNN, ABC, CBS or NBC.Paulson and Halsey feel differently.“You believe your source,” Paulson said.Paulson and Halsey tend to watch sources beyond the traditional channels on your cable provider.“I stopped watching Fox News 6-8 months ago,” Paulson said, commenting on the fact he doesn’t believe it's are conservative enough.Paulson and Halsey acknowledged they find themselves watching OANN, a far-right cable channel with the support of Trump, more often.COVID RESPONSEBecause the group has different sources, they obviously have different views of the world.“COVID is big on my mind,” Westermann said, commenting on what President-elect Biden needs to do first.Paulson and Halsey suggested how they differ.“If I get COVID, I would want to take hydroxychloroquine,” Halsey said about the treatment that the FDA stopped allowing doctors to prescribe outside of a clinical setting.“Do you believe in COVID?,” Gallagher asked Paulson sarcastically.“You going to shut down the entire economy for this,” Paulson said in response.“Nobody is saying that, this has never happened before,” Westermann said to Paulson, who he golfs with on a regular basis.TRANSITION AND ADVICE“I feel there is turmoil,” Gallagher said when asked about the current presidential transition.“We haven’t had peace all year,” Halsey said in response.“I don’t think there is turmoil going on,” Paulson said.But can Biden win over voters like Halsey and Paulson?“Is there anything he can do? Beginning in the fall of 2023, all California State University students will be required to take a three-unit ethnic studies or social justice course to graduate.“Automatic yes,” said Jose Juan Rodriguez Gutierrez Hernandez Estrada, a wildlife biology major at Humboldt State University. “I’m glad that’s something that’s going to be required.”In addition to his studies, Rodriguez also makes music about social issues and also plays on the HSU men's rugby team.For the student-athlete, this change in curriculum shows a commitment to much needed change.“I feel like making ethnic studies would go a long way, not just for students of color but for our society in general,” he said.University leaders say these courses will have their own section in the general education curriculum, as social science requirements have been lowered from nine to six units.“We feel that it really is time to make this change,” said Alison Wrynn, Ph.D., CSU associate vice chancellor.Wrynn says this decision is the first major change to the CSU system’s general education requirements in 40 years.“Whether you’re an engineer or a nurse, it’s important for you to understand the communities you’re working with as you make those professional discipline-based decisions,” she said.Some college leaders, however, say this change is not nearly enough“We are absolutely opposed to it,” said Charles Toombs, Ph.D., a professor of Africana Studies at San Diego State University.Toombs is also president of the California Faculty Association, the union that represents the 29,000 faculty members in the CSU system and a group he says was not included enough in the decision making.“The BOT (Board of Trustees) did not listen to our voices,” he said. “CSU’s proposal is diluting what ethnic studies is; it’s trying to include everything in ethnic studies.”Toombs and other representatives from the CFA are pushing for Assembly Bill 1460 – which would require students to take a class focusing on one of four ethnic groups: African Americans, Latin X, Asian Americans and indigenous groups.“It will actually give students essential knowledge that they need in the 21st century,” Toombs said.As the bill sits on the California governor’s desk, Rodriguez believes these new requirements are a good start for future change.“I feel like these lessons we can take with us and teach to our children, teach to the next generations,” he said. 2415

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- An Indiana Sheriff's deputy who was shot while assisting police early Friday morning will not survive his injuries according to the Boone County Sheriff.  Deputy Jacob Pickett was critically injured in a shooting while assisting the Lebanon Police Department with a pursuit of a wanted individual. He is being kept alive on life support so that his organs can be donated. At least one other law enforcement officer on the scene returned fire, striking one of the suspects.Pickett was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis where he was last listed in critical condition. The injured suspect, identified as Anthony Bumgarht, 21, is in stable condition at this time. Two other suspects, John D. Baldwin Sr., 55, and John D, Baldwin Jr., 28, both fled after the shooting. Baldwin Jr. was arrested a short time later after a wrong-way pursuit on I-65.   926
