The White House is considering expanding its much-litigated travel ban to additional countries amid a renewed election-year focus by President Donald Trump on immigration issues. That's according to four people familiar with the deliberations. Two of the people said that a document circulating in the White House outlines the plans, but the countries that would be affected were blacked out. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the measure has yet to be finalized. The expanded ban could include several countries that were initially included in the initial ban but later removed from the list. 622

The Supreme Court struck down Monday a provision of federal law that prohibits the registration of "immoral" or "scandalous" trademarks as a violation of the First Amendment. The justices' ruling clears the way for a clothing designer to apply for a federal trademark for his clothing line called FUCT.The 6-3 ruling could open the doors to more requests to register words or phrases that have been considered vulgar, a concern that the court's minority feared.Entrepreneur Erik Brunetti said he founded a clothing brand in 1990 to question authority and the assumptions of society. He said his company's name stands for "FRIENDS U CAN'T TRUST."In 2011, Brunetti sought to register the mark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in order to obtain benefits such as expanding rights against others attempting to use the same mark. The justices suggested Congress should take up the issue and write a more narrowly tailored law. 959

The Supreme Court could now decide as early as Wednesday afternoon whether an unnamed foreign-owned company will have to pay daily fines for avoiding a grand jury subpoena related to Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation. The company submitted a reply under seal to the Supreme Court earlier today, following written arguments it and the Justice Department made last week. The filing Wednesday tees up a vote by the full Supreme Court. The company has been trying to avoid a subpoena from a DC-based grand jury, and faced court-imposed fines for every day it did not turn over information. After losing at an appeals court, the company took its challenge to the Supreme Court and asked for a freeze on the mounting penalties.Chief Justice John Roberts allowed it a temporary pause last month, but the full court is now expected to weigh in on whether the freeze should stay in place.A denial from the court would be an apparent win for Mueller's team. Grand jury matters in the federal court system are typically kept secret, unless a witness decides to speak about the subpoenas they receive or their experience testifying. However, the case has still been one of the most secretive in years to progress through the court system. It apparently included two face-offs between special counsel office prosecutors and the unnamed company's private attorneys. After losing at the trial level, the DC Circuit Court closed a floor of the courthouse during appellate arguments to keep the identities of the arguing attorneys completely under wraps. The company has kept nearly all its filings secret -- with the exception of a log of when it submits information to the appeals courts.Though the Supreme Court allows for cases like this to be secret in their early requests, the high court has never heard a known case where all parties and arguments stayed confidential. 1907

They're the hallmark of vaping — the massive clouds that sometimes come in different shapes. But how does a little e-liquid become those clouds? We're going inside an e-cigarette to find out.The devices usually have four main parts: a reservoir that holds e-liquid, a battery, a heating element and a mouthpiece. The first step is to add e-liquid to the reservoir or to attach a pre-made cartridge. The liquid is made of nicotine, flavoring, vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol. You’ll find propylene glycol in things like inhalers and fog machines. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says it’s all safe.Next, the battery warms up the heating element and that vaporizes the e-liquid. The vapor travels through the e-cigarette, out the mouthpiece and into the lungs. When exhaled, the vapor vanishes into the air fairly quickly. The heat is low enough that it doesn't combust — or burn — the liquid.Supporters say vaporizing creates fewer dangerous compounds than combustion. The American Cancer Society says vapor can still contain harmful chemicals or substances, like volatile organic compounds, or VOCs.They cause inflammation and can make the kidneys, liver or nervous system fail.According to the American Cancer Society, vapor can also contain harmful flavoring chemicals and formaldehyde. 1312
