SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — From Iraq to San Diego, it's a marriage that has lasted 75 years.Elias and Naima Romaya have been inseparable since the end of World War II. They met when they were young and growing up in Mosul, Iraq.Now over 100 years old, Elias is a little hard of hearing, but still loves his wife deeply. The couple celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this week, and one of their granddaughters, Lana, helped share their story"He used to tutor her when she was in high school, and they fell in love," Lana says. "The American dream they wanted, they wanted a better life, of course, they were under Saddam Hussein's reign at that time, so they just wanted a better life for their future."That was more than 30 years ago. So why did they choose Rancho San Diego as their new home?"Because it was similar weather to Iraq and they just wanted a similar, warm and sunny environment," Lana said.The celebration came with a trip to the Hotel del Coronado and a cake. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — From California to Maine, breweries across the country are stepping up to help California fire victims.The effort started with the Sierra Nevada brewery. While their facility was spared by the Camp Fire, communities around it were devastated.Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman reached out to fellow brewers to join him in the disaster relief effort, making their ‘Resilience Butte County Proud IPA’ recipe available to those who want to help. The brewery is asking that 100 percent of profits go to fire relief efforts. So far over 1,200 breweries have pledged to make and sell the beer.“I’ve never seen anything on this scale,” said Jim Millea, brewmaster at OB Brewery. “That’s a lot of beer being made for a good cause, it’s pretty sweet!”Millea says he didn’t hesitate to join the effort.“Who wouldn’t want to be a part of a good cause?” said Millea. He’s one of many in the San Diego region who will be brewing Resilience IPA. Millea hopes to have his on tap at the OB Brewery in a few weeks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hundreds gathered outside Fire Station 21 in Pacific Beach Tuesday evening to remember a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department firefighter killed in a motorcycle crash over the weekend.Ryan Ferrara, 39, was riding on the back of the motorcycle as a passenger when it crashed into a parked vehicle. It happened July 18 at the 13000 block of Piping Rock Lane in the Lakeside area.The driver of the motorcycle was hospitalized; he has not yet been identified. Rich Marcello, who worked with Ferrara, says it's a Fire Station 21 tradition to go down to the beach and watch the sunset after every shift when possible."Every evening, we come out and watch the sunset and gather round each other and kind of hang out with each other, which is why we're here with the family today," he said.Before he was a firefighter, Ferrara was a lifeguard. The company has boosted pay and bonuses, raising e-commerce employee wages by an hour as online orders surge.
