SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A cold winter storm is set to bring rain and snow to San Diego County starting Monday, according to the National Weather Service.The agency says the San Diego County mountains could see as much as six inches of snow, sparking a winter storm watch from 8 a.m. Monday through 4 a.m. Tuesday.The heaviest snow is expected to fall above 5,500 feet with lighter amounts down to 4,500 feet.RELATED: Check today's forecast in your areaMeanwhile, other parts of the county could see much-needed rain totaling as much as one inch. Thunderstorms are also possible, the agency said.A beach hazards statement was issued Saturday ahead of the storm. Waves and surf of four to seven feet are expected with sets as high as eight feet. The agency also warned about the slight chance of isolated thunderstorms at beaches Monday.“Obey posted warning signs and flags and talk to a lifeguard before swimming.  Use caution when in or near the water and always swim near a lifeguard,” the agency concluded. 1018

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A grand jury indicted two San Diego men Thursday on suspicion of blowing up ATM’s in Kearny Mesa and Miramar.Chad Engel, 46, and Scott Petri, 47, were charged with five counts including using explosives for the crimes and conspiracy to commit bank robbery.The first robbery happened July 4, 2017, at the California Coast Credit Union branch ATM on Ruffin Rd. The explosives went off but the ATM was not breached.RELATED: Explosives used in ATM robberiesThe second robbery was on August 13, 2017, at the Chevron gas station on Miramar Rd. Investigators said Engel and Petri drilled a hole in the ATM, filled it with gas, and ignited a fuse. The resulting explosion damaged the ATM and allowed the men to steal ,000, said investigators.Surveillance videos of both crimes were released to find the suspects. 833

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Del Cerro woman had a rare - and timely - encounter outside a Halloween display on her morning walk Tuesday. Liz Harley and her friend Terry Finstad spotted an owl in the middle of the street, transfixed by a light show of bats on the side of a home. “It was just so cool,” Harley told 10News. Harley and Finstad have been walking together for 25 years, since their children were small. Now they’re both grandmothers and keep their tradition alive. During their walks, the two have seen all kinds of wildlife: coyotes, rabbits, skunks, raccoons. At first, Harley thought the owl was a cat, but then she noticed its head spinning. “We just watched it,” she said. “We wondered, what is it doing?” The owl spent several minutes absorbed by the flying bats, oblivious to Harley’s golden retriever. Harley and Finstad walked on, and when they passed through the area again, the owl was gone, leaving only feathers behind. “Kind of reminded me of Harry Potter,” Harley said. Harley, who usually goes to the gym on Tuesdays, is glad she chose to stay close to home. “I was rewarded for walking this morning.” 1130

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 96-year-old family secret reveals a piece of the Carlsbad school district’s history. Florence Oliver has lived in San Diego her whole life."I was born at SD General at that time, but of course I don't remember it!" The family settled down in Carlsbad, and for Florence, family is everything. For the last century, her family hung on to another memory. A brass bell from the Carlsbad School which rung daily for class.In 1922, Florence's uncles stole stole the bell to pull off a prank on her mother's wedding night. "They hung it, in those days you had those wire springs on bed to hold mattresses, they hung it underneath, no one knew… so the bell really rang loud!"Rather than return the bell, it stayed in the family - first handed down to Florence's oldest brother, and then the next brother, and eventually to her."What does it mean to me, it's just a piece of our life, and it's gone through our family, it's like it's related."One day, Florence had a conversation with her niece. "She said Dad used to go in the garage and she told me that bell needs to go home, that would make him very proud."So last month, Florence made good on her promise. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A bizarre series of events led to a woman visiting San Diego with her family, getting attacked in a Hyatt Hotel lobby by a stranger running from a crash scene. Construction workers tell 10News they witnessed a man drive recklessly through a Mission Bay construction zone around 5 a.m., almost striking vehicles.The workers say they jumped in their truck and followed the driver down Quivira Road hoping to get his license plate information.Instead, they say the driver made a U-turn and crashed into their truck and a parked car. The driver’s car immediately burst into flames, but he wasn’t done just yet.According to the construction workers, the man then ran from the scene toward the Hyatt Hotel in Mission Bay.They say they chased him on foot, and held him down in the hotel lobby, waiting for police to arrive.Witnesses tell 10News that’s when the man got away and attacked a woman who was in the lobby checking out of the hotel.The woman’s husband told 10News the man tackled her then put her in the choke hold. The victim’s mother said she believes the suspect was trying to kill her daughter.The victim, her husband and parents were visiting San Diego from Minnesota. They were scheduled to continue their vacation by flying out to Hawaii this morning.They have to reschedule the trip because the victim was taken to the hospital.Police arrested the suspect. They say his motive is unclear.Investigators have not yet determined if the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. 1547
