OCEAN BEACH (KGTV)- Big waves continue to pound the coast today. A High Surf Advisory is issued until Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Waves reached heights up to eight feet Thursday and along Ocean Beach Pier, some waves reached 10 feet. As we normally see during high surf, advanced surfers made their way to the beaches. In Ocean Beach, crews continued their work to repair the pier despite the high surf below. Waves up to 10 feet crashed into the pier. One Ocean Beach resident tells 10News, "you know we spend all this money to live here and this is one of our facilities, it's sad when its closed". Crews are still on track to reopen the pier by Memorial Day, according to the City of San Diego. 709

One hundred people have been charged in connection with a large-scale fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, and cocaine trafficking ring that has operated between Cuyahoga and Columbiana counties in Ohio since 2014.According to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, the amount of fentanyl and carfentanil that was allegedly trafficked into the area "was enough to kill every single person in Columbiana County, plus every man, woman, and child in 11 other nearby counties."Investigators say the people charged are responsible for funneling the equivalent of approximately 1 million potentially fatal doses of carfentanil and approximately 350,000 potentially fatal doses of fentanyl into Columbiana County alone.Authorities began serving arrest warrants as part of "Operation Big Oak" on Monday.Three Cuyahoga County men, who are the alleged ringleaders of the operation, are accused of operating the drug ring as part of the “Down the Way” criminal street gang.  The men are all facing multiple charges related to the trafficking of fentanyl and the trafficking of heroin and/or cocaine.A fourth Cuyahoga County man, who was also identified as an alleged ringleader of the organization, is accused of trafficking carfentanil, fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine as part of the drug operation.According to investigators, the four suspects allegedly sold the drugs to dozens of mid-level traffickers who then sold the drugs across Columbiana County.A total of 51 alleged mid-level traffickers from Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Tuscarawas, and Mahoning counties are also facing one or more charges related to the trafficking of fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, or cocaine. Forty-five lower-level suspects were also indicted after investigators found that they allegedly contributed to the actions of the drug trafficking organization.Two suspects are charged with felony assault for allegedly exposing East Liverpool Police Officer Chris Green to fentanyl during a May 2017 traffic stop conducted as part of the investigation into this drug trafficking ring. Border Patrol agents pulled the woman over near the Oceanside Harbor Interstate 5 exit just after 4 p.m. Tuesday. After becoming suspicious of the driver’s behavior, agents found more than 48 pounds of the drug inside a duffle bag in the trunk. On the corner of South Park Street and West 16th in Little Rock, Arkansas, sits a bus bench.To the untrained eye, it is nothing more than some wood and concrete, but to the students at Central High School across the street, it is a reminder of the racism our country has faced.In 1957, Central became the first high school in a major U.S. city to desegregate when nine black students were escorted through crowds of white students by the National Guard so they could attend class.One of those black students, Elizabeth Eckford, was mercilessly heckled as she approached the school. So much so, that she turned away and retreated to that bus bench as a safe haven while she waited for a ride home."Even though it’s history, it didn’t happen too long ago,” said Adaja Cooper, who graduated from Central High School last year.Years after the 1957 Little Rock Nine crisis, the bus bench Eckford had sat on was removed for no particular reason. In the decades that followed, most did not bat an eye, until Cooper, a black student, was in her junior year of high school and wanted to recreate the piece of history as part of a school project known as The Memory Project.“It’s not just the story of building a bench, but the retelling of the history,” said Cooper. “It created a bond, and it’ll last for the rest of my life.”With the help of sophomore Milo Williams Thompson and history teacher George West, Cooper began pouring concrete, cutting wood, and reassembling the bench.It was not the first piece of history recreated by The Memory Project, but it was the most technical."It was supposed to be a one year project, and we couldn’t stop after we saw the experiences the students were having,” West said.By 2018, when Cooper was a senior and Williams Thompson was a junior, the bench was completed and placed on the corner once occupied by the original.
