SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The public is invited to the inaugural Christmas tree lighting ceremony Saturday at the new Legacy International Center in Mission Valley.Dozens of workers made their last-minute touches Friday ahead of the center's tree lighting, which plans to pull out all the holiday stops."We'll have Christmas caroling out there, and Santa will be out there. Just social fun," Jim Penner, executive director of the center, said. Penner said Saturday's event is the first of a three-phase opening for the nearly 0-million hotel, theater, and attraction center opening next year. The center is the brain-child of San Diego-based televangelist Morris Cerullo, who made his fortune as a popular televangelist in the 1980s and 1990s."He [Cerullo] wanted people around the world to be able to experience the people that he got to know through his 70 years of travel to 95 nations in the world," Penner said. Penner told 10News the center was initially supposed to be a small ministry training center and possibly a dormitory. But with the availability of the 18-acre former Mission Valley Resort, they went big. The hotel will have 126 rooms, including 12 suites. The fine-dining restaurant is a steakhouse, which is next to the pool and spa. The attraction building has a domed, 4D theater designed by former Disney Imagineers. Audiences will get to feel like they're flying over Jerusalem in a ride created by the same designers who made Soarin' Over California at Disney California Adventure Park.Another attraction will be an award-winning, computerized dome, where people can digitally tour the world."As we get to know each other, the world gets smaller," Penner said. Before the council approved the blueprints in 2017, critics of the Legacy International Center feared that traffic would be a nightmare. But Penner said that the improvements they made on the roads turned out to have unexpected benefits. "We widened Hotel Circle the entire length of our property. We have 1000 feet of frontage there. And a nice benefit of that is when we had this last big rain last week, in the past, Hotel Circle would flood like crazy in front of the hook ramps here, and no flooding at all!"The inaugural Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. tomorrow. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Though there are still votes to be counted, data from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters is showing how residents voted on some of the most widely publicized races this midterm election.While the Registrar's data reports 100 percent of precincts, there are about 490,000 outstanding ballots waiting to be processed — so these numbers are not the county's official results.They do, however, show how San Diegans compare in statewide races.STATEThe race for governor was fairly close according to the data, with Democrat Gavin Newsom leading 53.87 percent to Republican John Cox's 46.13 percent.Cox conceded to Newsom late Tuesday after statewide numbers showed Newsom take the lead, winning 59 percent to 41 percent.RELATED: Nathan Fletcher, Jim Desmond win San Diego County Board of Supervisors seatsIn the race for U.S. Senator, San Diegans voted for Democrat Dianne Feinstein 53.6 percent to fellow Democrat Kevin De Leon's 46.4 percent. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Thirty-seven people were charged with drug and firearms trafficking throughout North San Diego County, according to unsealed indictments — in some case, feet away from schools.More than 100 members of the North County Regional Gang Task Force, the FBI SWAT team, and other local agencies arrested 18 of the 37 defendants Wednesday.Heroin, methamphetamine and fentanyl and firearms, including a semi-automatic pistol, revolvers, and a two AR-15 style assault rifles, were also seized during the arrests, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of California.Officials said the drugs and firearms being trafficked were stored and sold in North County, including near Libby Lake Park and several schools: Jefferson Middle School, Clair W. Burgener Academy, Mission Elementary School, San Marcos High School, and Joli Ann Leichtag Elementary School.Wednesday's arrests are part of a federal and local investigation into street gangs operating in Encinitas, San Marcos, Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, Escondido, and elsewhere. Many of those arrested reportedly have ties to the Mexican Mafia, officials said.In total, 27 of the 37 being charged are in custody, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of California. The remaining 10 are being sought."We have a special resolve to go after gangs that have the audacity to operate on the boundaries of our schools, where children play and learn," U.S. Attorney Adam L. Braverman said in a release. "The gangs are always on our radar, but when they endanger our most precious and vulnerable population – our children - we will act decisively."Some of the narcotics trafficked were obtained in Tijuana, Mexico, investigators said, and then brought to North County gang members via "unsanitary methods.""They repeatedly smuggled small quantities of narcotics in body cavities, via pedestrian lanes at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa border crossings," the U.S. Attorney's Office release said.In one instance, one alleged gang member, Theresa Lapolla, was found in possession of more than 100 grams of heroin at her home, located less than 700 feet from three Oceanside schools. 2214
