Starbucks says it has developed a solution to block customers from viewing pornography on its free public Wi-Fi.The coffee giant originally promised to block pron sites in 2016 as soon as it developed a system to block graphic sites. Starbucks has not divulged details on how its content filtering system will work.According to Business Insider, Starbucks' policy change comes after a petition issued by an internet safety group Enough Is Enough garnered 26,000 signatures. The group's CEO, Donna Rice Hughes, claims that by allowing unfiltered Wi-Fi, Starbucks was "keeping the doors wide open for convicted sex offenders and others to fly under the radar from law enforcement and use free, public Wi-Fi services to access illegal child porn and hard-core pornography."Starbucks said in a statement to The Verge that “While it rarely occurs, the use of Starbucks public Wi-Fi to view illegal or egregious content is not, nor has it ever been permitted...We have identified a solution to prevent this content from being viewed within our stores and we will begin introducing it to our US locations in 2019.”According to Enough Is Enough, Starbucks was lagging behind other restaurant chains like McDonald's and Subway, both of which banned pornography on their Wi-Fi networks in 2016.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. TAMPA, Fla. -- The fight against COVID-19 is taking off in a new direction: it’s headed for the friendly skies.“We wanted to be able to instill confidence in the traveling public that, in fact, it is safe to travel,” said John Tiliacos, vice president of airport operations and customer service at Tampa International Airport.Tucked away in a corner of the main terminal at the airport sits a coronavirus testing center. This month, Tampa’s airport became the first in the country to offer two types of COVID-19 tests to the flying public. The tests are administered by medical personnel from BayCare Health System.“There's a lot of people who are asymptomatic carriers and we don't want to invariably go and expose a loved one or a family member,” said Dr. Nishant Anand, Chief Medical Officer for BayCare Health System.While the tests are required for people traveling to certain international destinations, it can also benefit people traveling within the U.S., by helping them avoid a 14-day quarantine in certain states, if they test negative for the virus.“Me and three other girlfriends are going on the girl's trip,” said Aneesah Rashad, who is celebrating her birthday with a vacation.Rashad is heading to Puerto Rico and needed a COVID test to do so.“It's required in order for you to go to enter into San Juan within 72 hours prior to your travel day,” Rashad said. “I've been tested several times, just to make sure, because I do care about my health and it's important to me.”The two tests offered include the , rapid coronavirus antigen test, which offers test results in 15 minutes. There is also the more accurate, 5 PCR test – which uses a nasal swab – with results within two days. Both tests are covered by most insurance.“Heaven forbid, if someone does test positive, we tell them to go home and quarantine,” Dr. Anand said. “We tell them what the results are. We then are obligated by law to notify the Department of Health for Hillsborough County, which is a county that we're in.”Even some airlines, like United, American, Jetblue and Hawaiian, are now offering COVID testing before certain flights.Earlier this year, passenger numbers cratered at airports across the country, down more than 90% in Tampa alone.“[It’s] the worst impact that we've seen to travel,” Tiliacos said.However, the number of people flying is starting to tick back up heading into the holiday season. The coronavirus testing center is open at a time when it could become vital.“We hope that other airports replicate this,” Tiliacos said.Since Tampa International Airport opened their testing site, several others have followed suit, including in Oakland, Boston and New York. 2686

Not too long ago, to keep him company, a friend brought him a boy cat named Fluffy.Over the first few weeks they had together, Williams says he and Fluffy hit it off right away.“I looked at him and hey, I just fell in love with him,” said Williams.As it’s safe to say we all do with our pets, Williams talked to Fluffy quite a lot. When the senior got calls on his cellphone, he’d joke around with Fluffy then too.“The phone would ring, and I would say ‘ring-a-ding,’” said Williams. “And I didn’t know he’d pick up on it.”Then, a few days ago, Williams slipped and fell getting out of the shower. He couldn’t move.“My arm was pinned under me, and the hours kept going by,” said Williams. “16 hours…”From roughly 8 a.m. until midnight later that day, Williams laid in agony. The door was closed, and his Life Alert was in the other room on the charger. His phone was in the bathroom with him, but just out of reach on the counter.Lucky for Williams, Fluffy was in the room too. And whether or not he knew it, he’d been training Fluffy for this moment accidentally.“So I said ‘ring-a-ding Fluffy, you’re my only hope,’” Williams said, tearing up. “And he was. It wasn’t even five minutes later I felt something hit my hand. And I’m here because of it.”The cat had brought Williams his phone and he was able to dial 911.“I relive it a million times. What if he wouldn’t have been in there with me? I’d be dead today,” he added.Now Williams, who served with the U.S. Army in Korea, is fine – left only with some soreness and bumps and bruising. It's expensive to go to school, and loans help many afford higher-education but not all that money may be going toward tuition and books.A survey found that one in five college students are using some of their leftover loan money to dip their toes into virtual currencies like Bitcoin.The mere mention of cryptocurrency is enough to make Loyola University Maryland Assistant Accounting Professor JP Krahel cringe.“Oh, oh boy,” said Krahel with the Sellinger School of Business.Even worse, students are buying into it and they're using student loan money to do so.The allowance meant for living expenses is instead being invested into Bitcoin and Ethereum. The Student Loan Report found that's how 21 percent of current college students are using their excess financial aid money.“Given the unregulated market of cryptocurrency, given what we've already seen, proven volatility, and given the fact that student loan debt is something you can't get rid of in bankruptcy, I personally, without getting too hyperbolic here, I would not do that,” Krahel said.A warning from someone who knows money, but even his wisdom is not enough to convince some of his own students.“They'll say, ‘Oh, did you see what bitcoin did yesterday, I made x dollars,’ I'm like, children, come on. Your interest rates and student loans that's what you should be worried about. If you have free money, send it back to Sallie Mae, you know, pay that debt off early because that stuff starts snowballing and paying off debt is a guaranteed return on investment,” said Krahel.And yet it's hard to shake the promise of investing in a market that's produced millionaires from relatively low investments just several years ago.“I don't want to knock cryptocurrencies, they do have a value, but people are getting into it because of that volatility, because you could have a thousand today and ,000 tomorrow,” said Krahel. “So, if you're willing to only see the upside, cryptocurrencies are great but that's not the way life works.”Bitcoin's value has sunk ,000 in the last month and plummeted from its peak in December at nearly ,000.However, with every slump there's also the possibility of a rally. These students could prove their professor wrong or learn a real-life lesson about loss and spending wisely.Krahel said you should be borrowing the least amount of money possible so you have less to pay off in the future.Students are graduating with an average of ,000 in student loan debt. 2541
