TOKYO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao described Tuesday his visit to Japan as successful, saying it has deepened trust, enhanced cooperation and consolidated the foundation for friendship between the two countries. In an interview with Japanese public broadcaster NHK, the Chinese premier called his visit to Japan "a journey of confidence and hope."Wen said he has achieved the visit's objectives of deepening mutual trust, enhancing cooperation and consolidating the foundation for friendship. "The visit is successful," he said.Important agreements were reached at his talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, including re-establishing a hot line between the heads of the two governments, creating a maritime communication mechanism between the two defense departments and speeding up the establishment of a maritime rescue agreement, Wen said. The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and identified green economy, energy and environmental protection and e-commerce as priority areas for cooperation, he said."Cooperation between China and Japan enjoys broad prospects," said Wen.The Chinese premier also called for promoting bilateral cultural and people-to-people exchanges, saying these exchanges are fundamental to the friendship between the two countries. After concluding a three-day visit to Japan earlier Tuesday, Wen is now in Mongolia for a two-day official visit.

BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- China's policy of actively attracting foreign investment will not change, said vice minister of commerce Ma Xiuhong Friday. The Ministry of Commerce will keep working to maintain a good investment environment for foreign companies, said Ma during a discussion with multinational firms."The ministry will strengthen its communication with multinational corporations and foreign enterprises," she said.China could provide new opportunities for foreign investors as the country is in a process of modernization, urbanization and transformation of its economic development pattern, said Ma.She hoped that while achieving their own development goals, foreign enterprises could play a larger role in China's pursuit of scientific innovation, industrial upgrading, and more balanced regional economic development.Representatives from 64 multinational corporations and four foreign chambers of commerce participated in the discussion. They were joined by officials from a number of Chinese government departments, including the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Industry and Information.Foreign direct investment to China increased 7.7 percent year on year to 23.44 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter.

GYEONGJU, South Korea, May 15 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday called on related parties to keep calm, exercise restraint and appropriately handle Cheonan incident.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made the remarks while meeting with his South Korean counterpart Yu Myung-hwan ahead of a trilateral foreign ministers' meeting of China, Japan and South Korea, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said.Yang said the sinking of the South Korean navy ship "Cheonan" is an unfortunate incident. Considering the current complicated and sensitive situation on the Korean Peninsula, China hopes all parties concerned should start from the stability and peace of the Korean Peninsula and the region, proceed from long-term interest, keep calm and exercise restraint to appropriately handle the Cheonan incident. As for what the Japanese side said during the two-way meeting between Yang and his Japanese counterpart Katsuya Okada that Chinese marine surveillance ships' enforcement activities on Japan 's scientific research ships east of "medium line" has damaged Japan's sovereignty and interests, Yang stressed that China remains clear and consistent position on the East China Sea issues. He said China has never recognized the so-called "medium line" proposed unilaterally by Japan, noting that the Japanese side has no right to adopt unilateral actions in the disputed sea, according to the spokesman. The spokesman said the two sides agreed to calmly deal with related issues to avoid worsening the situation and affecting the bilateral ties.Regarding to what the Japanese side mentioned during the meeting that its surveillance actions on the Chinese Navy's recent training in East China sea are in line with the International Law, describing the Chinese side's actions as "dangerous", Yang reaffirmed that the Chinese Navy are conducting normal training, which poses no threat to any country.Yang hoped that the two countries' defense authorities could enhance mutual trust by further strengthening exchanges and communications, so as to prevent misunderstanding and misjudgment, according to the spokesman.

BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China leader Jia Qinglin Monday met a visiting Taiwan delegation, who had attended a ceremony last week in honor of Huangdi, the Yellow Emperor, on the Chinese mainland.Huangdi, a legendary hero who lived 4,000 years ago, is considered to be the common ancestor of all Chinese people. The ceremony was held on April 16, the third day of the third month on the Chinese lunar calendar, which is considered the birthday of Huangdi, at mausoleums in Xinzheng, central Henan Province, Huangdi's birth place.Jia, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told the delegation that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait were all Chinese and attending the ceremony showed they still loved the nation.Unification was always the trend of history, which could not be reversed by any force, said Jia, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, or the top political advisory body.He said people's concerted efforts on both sides had brought the situation across the Strait out of crisis, and achieved major breakthroughs in cross-Strait relations on the common ground that opposes "Taiwan independence" and adheres to the "1992 Consensus."Jia especially praised efforts of teachers and students of the Huangpu (Whampoa) Military Academy in fighting imperialist, warlords and Japanese invaders before the founding of New China, saying the school, which was established in 1924 and famous for its officer graduates, "greatly contributed to national unification and independence."He said the school's spirit should be continued to strengthen national identity across the Strait, promote exchanges, deepen political mutual trust and curb "Taiwan independence."

BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government is "trying its best" to look for families for orphans in the Qinghai quake zone while trying to give them special care, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs."Among all people in the quake-hit areas, children whose parents were killed during the quake are in the most difficult situation and need special care," said an unnamed official with the ministry Friday.Government organizations and social groups would work together to care for the orphans. The ministry said it would seek adoptions for all orphans in the quake zone as soon as possible, and would "fully respect" the children's preferences and the traditions and habits of ethnic children.Six children were reportedly injured in the quake when a four-story orphan school collapsed. A total of 220 students are living in tents. The total number of orphans in the quake zone is not available.According to the ministry, social welfare organizations in Xining, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province, have set aside more than 300 beds for orphans and children whose parents or other family members have not been contactable since a 7.1-magnitude quake hit Yushu, Qinghai, on April 14.The ministry also planned to mobilize help from other regions if Qinghai had difficulty settling the orphans.Previous reports said SOS Children's Villages in Chengdu, Urumqi, Beijing and Tianjin would contact with the civil affairs department in Yushu and prepare for the arrival of orphans. The central government and Qinghai authorities would jointly provide each orphan with a monthly financial support of 1,000 yuan (146 U.S. dollars) for three months from April. In addition, figures from the ministry show that a total of 56,000 tents had reached the quake zone as of Friday evening, along with 117,000 coats and 208,000 quilts among other daily necessities and relief materials. The quake in Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu has left 2,187 people dead and 80 missing. Among the 12,135 injured, 1,434 were in serious condition.
