EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A news helicopter had what County of San Diego officials called a “troubled” landing in El Cajon Tuesday. The incident with the Bell 206B helicopter was reported about 2:15 p.m. in the parking area of Gillespie Field at 681 Kenney St., Santee Fire reported. Video recorded by the news helicopter appears that it was a normal landing in which the helicopter skids land on a movable platform called a dolly. The dolly can then be pulled into a hangar. It seems from the last seconds of the video clip that one of the helicopter skids may have missed the platform and the chopper then tipped over.When emergency crews arrived, the helicopter was on its side.The pilot was not hurt but the passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said. Hazardous Materials teams were notified of a small fire and fuel spill, according to the County."The aircraft rolled over while landing, caught fire and sustained substantial damage. The degree of damage means this will be classified as an accident," said FAA spokesperson Ian McGregor.The FAA and NTSB will investigate the landing.The news helicopter is operated by a third party and shared by five San Diego media outlets, including 10News. 1235

EL CAJON (KGTV) — Some amateur detective work by an East County business owner helped deputies track down two men suspected of stealing a popular wrought iron horse statue.Deputies arrested 56-year-old Percy Hill in Arizona and 62-year-old Rick Freeman near Lakeside on Friday.The men are accused of stealing the 10-foot-tall horse statue from outside the Double S Tack and Feed Store in unincorporated El Cajon on October 2. The statue weighs about 250 pounds, said owner Rita Gallant, somewhat lighter than initial estimates.After the theft, Gallant gathered surveillance video from nearby businesses and solicited tips on social media from the East County community.The video showed two vehicles were involved in the heist, including a distinctive Suzuki Samurai with a yellow flag mounted on a window, Gallant said. But the big break came on October 22, she said. Employees sounded the alarm when two men pulled up in the same Suzuki Samurai with the yellow flag. The men asked about purchasing yard art. Gallant thinks they were actually scoping out more things to steal."Not very smart," she said.After the store posted pictures and videos of the second encounter, a tipster was able to identify one of the men and deputies made arrests in two states."I never dreamed at all that I would ever get the horse back. I just wanted to make sure the people that stole him paid for it," she said.Gallant said she spoke with investigators who interviewed the suspects. "The gentleman took it for his yard," Gallant said. "He was doing a western theme."She drove the roughly 250-pound statue home from Arizona Monday night in a horse trailer. PMI is there to protect lenders in case you walk away. But if your home is suddenly worth more, you may hold enough equity to request to have PMI cancelled.To do this, you need to show lenders the home has increased in value, which means paying for a home appraisal. Those typically cost between 0 and 0. Meanwhile, PMI typically costs between 0.05% and 1% of the loan amount annually, which means the appraisal will pay for itself.If you’re staying put, you should also reassess your insurance to make sure it matches what your home is now worth, says McAuliffe. Take Equity OutWith interest rates so low, taking some equity out is another option. You can use that money to make renovations to your current home—which may be tax deductible, says McAuliffe—or pay off high interest credit card debt—as long as you don’t then rack up debt on them again.You can take equity out in several ways, including through a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance, where you pull the equity out in, well, cash. Homeowners at least 62 years old also can take out a reverse mortgage, which lets them borrow from their home’s equity.Herman says money drawn from equity could be used to buy another property, either as a second home, or to rent out. But only think about becoming a landlord if you have tolerance for it and can cover the mortgage in the case the property is empty between tenants, or tenants stop paying.Just make sure that you aren’t taking all of the equity out. People who got in trouble in 2007 and 2008 “pulled all of their equity out,” Herman says. “When prices dropped, they were stuck because they had used all the equity up in their home for something else.” So don’t press your luck and strip your house of all its old and new equity, or else you may wind up with a house worth less than what you owe on it. 6432
