(KGTV) - The sound of gunfire was met with fear and disbelief by students at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita Thursday. Two students died and three others were injured on campus, officials said. In the hours following the shooting on campus, the teenage survivors shared their emotional stories. “It was very scary; we ran, we heard the one shot and four after and we just started running,” said a female student. “All I heard was all these kids running and just screaming and calling their parents; it was very sad.” RELATED: Santa Clarita high school shooting: 2 killed, 3 hurt; Suspected shooter in 'grave' condition “It was like a balloon pop, super loud, and everyone started running and it was really scary,” said a boy who had been outside the school when the shooting happened. His concern was for his sister, who had arrived on campus early for choir rehearsal. She texted him that she was safe, but the shooting had happened close to her. "I'm just not gonna forget it," said a girl as her mother clutched her outside the school.Other students shared the experience of running away from campus. “So we were waiting outside of the locker room cause it wasn’t open yet, and all of a sudden we just we were with all of our friends and we heard the gunshots and we were, ‘Let’s go, let’s run.' We ran through the field, we went through the gate cause it was open and we had to go underneath the pipeline so we literally crawled underneath the pipeline. And there were construction workers and they like, helped us get through the hill and into the neighborhood, and we just kept walking until we got to the park.” Some of the children sought refuge in the first moments of the crisis with a man who lives near the school. “Coming out of my house to go get my coffee and I saw all kind of kids running up the street, screaming, crying, yelling. And it really saddened my heart, you know. And they were saying, ‘can we go in your house’ and there must have been 20 of them in my house. We just all kept running, and we were all helping each other, like ‘oh, do you have a ride, do you have a ride’ because it was just like a big group of us running through this neighborhood, trying to get away. Everybody helped each other; I was actually really surprised because I thought people would just panic and push people out of the way but everybody was helping each other. Everybody worked as a community to help each other like these kids,” said a female student.The survivors who sheltered in place at the school were evacuated on buses and reunited with their parents. 2816

(KGTV) - Sears in Chula Vista will shut down by February 2020, the chain’s parent company said Thursday. “Since purchasing substantially all the assets of Sears Holdings Corporation in February 2019, Transformco has faced a difficult retail environment and other challenges,” the company wrote in a news release. In all, 96 Sears and Kmart stores will be closed nationwide starting December 2, according to Transformco. When the process ends next year, the company will operate 182 remaining stores. Needless to say, one Sacramento-area California Highway Patrol officer was "shocked" to watch as an overstuffed truck nearly hit an overpass Tuesday.The South Sacramento officer was traveling on State route 50 when he saw the truck's mammoth haul, bags upon bags of bottles and cans, a CHP Facebook post reads. The driver of the truck was still traveling at freeway speeds, with the unsafe load still in tow.After watching the truck's load nearly collide with an overpass, the officer pulled the driver over off and told him to exit the freeway.The driver was given a lawful order to stay parked until he could off load the bottles and cans and transport them a safer way."If you are driving down eastbound US 50 and your load almost hits an over crossing, you might have an unsafe load!!" CHP wrote in a post.According to CHP, California Vehicle Code 2803(a) requires a vehicle's load "to be secure enough to prevent the dropping or shifting of such load onto the roadway." 1089

A 22-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man has been charged in the shooting death of 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro, the Jackson County prosecutor announced Thursday. During an afternoon press conference, authorities announced that Ryson B. Ellis, 22, has been charged with LeGend's murder. He faces one count each of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.Ellis was arrested shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday and booked in the Tulsa County Jail in Oklahoma.A woman who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting, identified in a KCPD probable cause statement as the sister of LeGend's father, told police she had a child with Ellis, who she alleged had assaulted her a few days before the deadly shooting.After that incident, which didn't involve LeGend, the woman's brothers, including LeGend's father, confronted Ellis at his residence, where an altercation ensued.The woman also told KCPD investigators that she received threatened messages from Ellis through social media after Legend's murder.LeGend's family was on hand at a press conference to announce the charges.Charron Powell, LeGend’s mother, said that she is “grateful that we are in the steps to justice,” but also expressed remorse for her son’s suspected killer and the culture of violence in Kansas City.“This is a lose situation, for my family, and including his,” Powell said of Ellis. “We have to take it a step farther and calm the violence down.” BREAKING: 22-year-old Ryson B.
