SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A pair of North San Diego County residences may become the latest local site to receive a national historic place designation.The Boathouses in Encinitas will be considered at an Aug. 1 meeting by the California State Historical Resources Commission to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.On 3rd Street, the pair of boathouses, known as the S.S. Moonlight and the S.S. Encinitas, sit blocks from the water but remain very much connected to 1920s life on the water. They were always intended to be homes and not actual vessels, but also meant to replicate the appearance and scale of boats at the time.Today, the homes represent what the California agency calls "an architecturally significant example of Fantasy-themed programmatic residential architecture." In short: Residential architecture meant to resemble something other than a traditional building.The boathouses were purchased by the Encinitas Preservation Association in 2008 and are currently rented out as private homes. Once the loan is paid off though, the plan is to convert the pair of quirky dwellings into a small museum.But explorers can visit the homes anytime on 3rd St. or do so with a helping of history from the Encinitas Historical Society during guided walking tours every third Saturday between Sept. and July. 1564

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man who recently returned from Iran is under self-quarantine at his parents' home in Rancho Bernardo. The traveler, who declined to give his name, lives in San Francisco. He said it would be easy to expose other family members at his home, but his parents have a detached unit where he can isolate himself. He said he contacted his healthcare provider for guidance before returning to the United States, but was directed to the CDC website. "The onus shouldn't be on me. There should be some kind of response, from the government or some kind of authority. I just feel they should be a lot more proactive. I feel it's going to hit us like a tsunami, " said the man. He was in Iran, where at least 200 people have died from COVID19, for the last few months taking care of his family business. He's been out of the country for eight days. He says he isn't showing any symptoms, but he still wants to be tested. "Per CDC guidelines, they said if you're not showing symptoms, you don't need, and the word was "need," you don't need a test, you should just self-quarantine until the 14 day period has passed. Need is one thing, I said I want to test, I said wouldn't you want to test, if you're a carrier you want to know." It's up to an individual's doctor or healthcare professional to recommend someone for testing, but the CDC has the final say. San Diego’s median income can afford renters 552 square feet, according to a new report by Rent Café. The City of San Diego says the median income for a family of four is ,400. According to Data USA, the median household income in the South Bay city is slightly less than ,000. While 552 square feet may not seem like a ton of space, the median income in other California cities affords renters far less. According to the report, if you limit spending on rent to 30 percent of your income, you’d have to live in less than 350 square feet in both Los Angeles and Oakland. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A judge is considering placement locations for a sexually violent predator convicted of sexual offenses against children between the ages of 4 and 9.Judge Howard Shore issued a written decision Tuesday that a proposed address on the 15000 block of Adams Drive in Pauma Valley was not suitable for the placement of Joseph Bocklett.A news release from the District Attorney said Judge Shore is considering other potential housing options.Bocklett was convicted of three sexual offenses over a 19-year period involving children between the ages of 4 and 9.He was sentenced in 2000 to a 17-year prison term before being committed to Coalinga State Hospital for treatment.Last year, Bocklett petitioned for the Conditional Release Program for sex offenders. He was granted conditional release to a supervised home. "I can certainly empathize with the feeling that people do not want someone like Mr. Bocklett in their community,'' Shore said during last Friday's hearing. ``I would be shocked if anyone wrote a letter saying, `We can't wait to have him living in our community.' SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A runaway boat became lodged on rocks after taking off while the owner was trying to dock the vessel Monday afternoon.Captain Tony Olson with TowBoatUS San Diego said a man sailing from Harbor Island was trying to dock at Shelter Island when the boat took off.According to Olson, the man was trying to tie the boat off with the sail partially up and the motor running, causing it to take off without him.The 35-foot vessel became lodged on rocks at the Naval Base.It took a while for the boat to become dislodged. Olson says there doesn’t appear to be any major damage to the vessel.Olson noted that this is one of several boats that ran aground Monday.A 19-foot vessel, pictured below, also smashed into rocks at the foot of Point Loma. The Coast Guard warned people traveling through marine channel 16 of the boat that ran aground.  872
