The Cherokee Nation has named an official representative to Congress for the first time.Kimberly Teehee, executive director of government relations for the Cherokee Nation, was approved by the Council of the Cherokee Nation as a delegate to the US House of Representatives on Thursday, fulfilling a promise made to the tribe in a nearly 200-year-old treaty with the federal government.A former senior policy adviser for Native American Affairs during President Barack Obama's administration, she was nominated by Chuck Hoskin Jr., chief principal of the Cherokee Nation. The Bakersfield Police Department in California has arrested a 23-year-old man who officials said forced his pregnant girlfriend to ingest numerous unknown pills in an effort to force a miscarriage. According to BPD, on Wednesday around 1:00 a.m. officers received a report of suspicious circumstances. The person who called police claimed a pregnant family member, the victim, had been held at gunpoint and forced by the victim's boyfriend to ingest numerous unknown-type pills to try to force a miscarriage. Officers responded to a local hospital where the victim was and confirmed the story with the victim. BPD said the victim did have a miscarriage as a result of the incident. Police identified the suspect as Jagmeet Sandhu, 23, and executed search warrants at locations associated with Sandhu and found evidence that corroborated the reported offenses. Sandhu was taken into custody without incident near 17th Street and Truxtun Avenue. He was later booked into the Kern County Jail for several criminal charges including murder, domestic assault, and false imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing. According to CDC findings, 1 in 4 young adults aged 19-34 and 1 in 5 adolescents aged 12-18 suffer from prediabetes. Those with prediabetes have elevated blood sugar levels, but have not reached the threshold to be considered diabetic. The report from the CDC stated that overweight young people were significantly more likely to have prediabetes. The report found that 25.7% of overweight adolescents had elevated blood sugar levels, compared to 16.4 of adolescents of normal weight. Those figures were even pronounced among young adults. 36.6% of overweight young adults were prediabetic compared to 16.6% of young adults with a normal weight. “The prevalence of prediabetes in adolescents and young adults reinforces the critical need for effective public health strategies that promote healthy eating habits, physical activity, and stress management,” said CDC Director Robert R. Redfield, M.D. “These lifestyle behaviors can begin early in a child’s life and should continue through adolescence and adulthood to reduce onset of type 2 diabetes.”The CDC expressed concerns that young Americans with prediabetes face significantly higher cholesterol levels, systolic blood pressure, abdominal fat and lower insulin sensitivity than those with normal glucose tolerance, which increased their risk of type 2 diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases. The guidance, which goes into effect immediately, comes as spread of the coronavirus grows nationally, and is particularly dangerous for the elderly and disabled. Sheeran’s so-called confession that he killed Hoffa at the mob’s request was made public in 2003 when author Charles Brandt released the book “I Heard You Paint Houses.” The movie brings that story to life on the big screen – but Hoffa experts say it’s historically just plain wrong."Good art, bad history," says Goldsmith.
