SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego police officer was involved in a shooting outside a music venue in downtown San Diego just before 7 p.m. Saturday.San Diego Police Lt. Mike Holden said that a white man in his thirties was acting violently on top of a vehicle hood on the corner of W. Ash Street and India Street.The man was only wearing pants and did not have a shirt or shoes on and was standing on the hood of a car yelling at the driver, police said. A police officer tried to take the man into custody and used a Taser, which did not subdue him. Police said the man continued to act violently.The officer then fired one shot, which did not hit anybody."The officer continued to struggle with the suspect," said Lt. Mike Holden of the San Diego Police Department. "At one point during the struggle the officer feared for his life. The officer fired one round from his handgun, but missed the suspect."The suspect, Brent Zadina, 30, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for observation. Police do not believe Zadina was armed.The officer sustained minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital, Holden said. Police are investigating the incident near the Music Box. The roads were closed nearby for the investigation but have since reopened.This is a developing story. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A small portion of San Diego State students will return to campus next week for limited in-person classes.The university says students who are taking in-person classes are required to be tested for COVID-19 at least every 14 days. This includes both students living on-campus and those taking in-person courses.Students and instructors on campus are also required to wear a facial covering at all times (with limited exceptions), maintain physical distancing, and have their temperatures checked daily.There will be two temperature check kiosks on campus and instructors will also have the ability to check a student's temperature using a non-contact infrared thermometer.Since the fall semester started, SDSU has reported 1,134 coronavirus cases among students, including 408 on-campus students and 726 off-campus students. Ten faculty or staff and 13 visitors have also reportedly tested positive.To combat off-campus cases from rising in the surrounding College Area, the school has enforced its COVID-19 student policy on students living off-campus as well. Students or organizations found in violation of SDSU's policies, like failing to wear face coverings or attending social gatherings, could face student organization sanctions and individual disciplinary action, which may include expulsion. 1328

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman was killed and her young son was taken to the hospital Friday morning following a two-car crash on a Mira Mesa street.Late Friday night, friends at a vigil for the young mother confirmed to 10News that her name is Judy. A photo of Judy left at the vigil is attached to this article. The collision in the 7200 block of Calle Cristobal was reported just after 7 a.m., according to San Diego police.“It’s not very safe at all.” Neighbor, Lara Janda had been saying this for years, about her own driveway at Canyon Park Villas in Mira Mesa. “There are so many accidents that we have seen, heard, or we’ve almost been in a few,” Janda said.Then, on Friday morning, she saw what she had feared for years.Through the heavy fog, she found her neighbor’s car, crunched into another. The cars were mangled. There was glass everywhere. “There was no movement or anyone coming out of the vehicle,” Janda said, of her neighbor’s white Acura Legend.Police said the victim pulled out of the driveway of an apartment complex and was traveling southbound when a collision occurred with a Honda Accord traveling westbound on Calle Cristobal.The 27-year-old woman died at the scene, and police said the woman’s 4-year-old boy sustained a broken pelvis, broken ribs, a fractured skull and broken right knee. The child’s injuries are considered life-threatening. He was transported to Scripps La Jolla, then to Rady’s Children’s Hospital for treatment.Police said the boy was in a child safety seat at the time of the crash.Janda said she is saddened by what she knew was eventually going to happen. She said she reported the dangerous intersection to traffic police at least four times in the last two years, but saw no change. She believed what made it so awful this morning, was the combination of the fog, the speeding drivers, and the blind intersection.“We have high foliage here, and this large pole here, so it’s very difficult to see who is coming around this corner,“ Janda said, pointing at the road.For one family, Good Friday has become the worst day of their lives.And a neighborhood is now shaken up, hoping an accident like this, will never happen again. 2229

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Encinitas family on vacation woke up to a disturbing alert last week, video of someone stealing multiple packages from their porch.Homeowner Mark Sandorf says the most peculiar thing was who the thief was."It’s different in that she looks like she’s probably someone’s grandma," said Sandorf.The family immediately filed a police report from New Mexico.10News blurred the woman's face because the San Diego Sheriff's Department has not yet said she's a wanted suspect.One of the packages had sentimental value, three custom holsters for Sandorf's son who is in law enforcement."My son is, like I said, risking his life out there every day and we try to keep him in good equipment and what not. These were custom made by a friend of mine in South Carolina," said Sandorf.Sandorf says the most frustrating thing is knowing the holsters will likely get thrown away.He hopes others in his Encinitas Ranch neighborhood will be on alert after the incident. 980
