(KGTV) -- People living on the streets are worried that the new portable restrooms installed by the city will get shut down because of those using them for illegal activity.  The city installed four portable bathrooms on First and C Street near City Hall. Four hand washing stations were also installed.On Monday, people using the restrooms were thankful and said the restrooms were long overdue. One man, a Navy veteran, told 10News he's used the restroom twice since they were installed. On one of those trips, he found a used needle. He worries drug users will force the city to shut the bathrooms down. The area has 24-hour security. Security guards work in 12- hour shifts. One guard told 10News he warns people that they can't stay in the bathroom for too long. The city plans on installing other portable restrooms at different locations in the coming weeks. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California voters approved a measure Tuesday requiring all eggs sold in the state come from cage-free hens by 2022.Proposition 12 led with 59 percent of the vote with nearly 4 million ballots counted.Supporters say the measure is a step toward more humane farming practices, while opponents say it doesn't go far enough.The measure sets new minimum requirements on the sizes of pens that farmers use to house breeding pigs and calves raised for veal, and it bans sales in California of products from hens, calves and pigs raised in other states that do not meet California's standards.Dubbed the Prevention of Cruelty to Farm Animals Act, Proposition 12 builds on an earlier ballot measure, Proposition 2, that passed in 2008 and banned keeping hens, calves and pigs in tiny cages so cramped they couldn't stand up, lie down or turn around.That measure took effect in 2015 but lacked specific size requirements and did not apply to out-of-state farmers whose products were sold in California.Proposition 12 specifies how much floor space farmers need to give each animal.The measure was sponsored and financed by the Humane Society of the United States, which also backed Proposition 2 and says the upgrade will strengthen the earlier measure and restore California as a leader in the ethical treatment of farm animals.A decade ago, Proposition 2 was the furthest-reaching law for farm animals in the country. Since then a dozen states have banned or restricted confinement for at least one farm animal. (KGTV) - Sharp Rees-Steely dermatologist Nancy Maly said they have seen an increase in people coming in with skin problems related to wearing masks.“Masks are very important but they do come with some drawbacks,” she said.She said the type of mask can impact how much it irritates the skin. A more loose mask will not irritate as badly but is not as effective for the fight against coronavirus, so she said to only wear a loose mask if there are no people nearby.“Obvious trade-off being they don’t function as well as masks so making sure that you’re choosing a face covering that’s appropriate for the situation,” she said.Maly also said wearing daily products like sunscreen, lotion and makeup on your face can make any acne or irritations worse. She said typical medications to treat acne should help these conditions, like salicylic acid and topical retinoids.She said bottom line, though, is that while keeping your skin healthy is important, the masks are necessary to keep others healthy.“I think overall people have been very aware of the overall goal of wearing a mask to protect themselves and protect other people. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV): Drug enforcement experts in San Diego are warning about a new, deadlier opioid on the streets - Carfentanil."You've got Fentanyl, which is 50 times stronger than heroin. And then Carfentanil, which is 100 times stronger than Fentanyl," explains DEA Special Agent in Charge Colin Ruane.Carfentanil was originally created to be used as a tranquilizer on large zoo animals, like elephants. The FDA initially restricted it's manufacture to just 28 grams per year in the US.According to FDA Spokesperson Lindsay Haake, "The sponsor of Wildnil, a form of Carfentanil, voluntarily relinquished the approval for this potent analog of Fentanyl in March 2018, as it hadn’t been marketed in at least five years, and because the sponsor wanted to avoid any potential public health effects associated with diversion of the drug if marketed in the future."It only takes .02 mg of Carfentanil to cause a deadly overdose in humans. That's about the same size as a couple grains of salt."The fact that it's as potent and deadly as it is, and we don't know when it's going to show up or where it's going to show up is of most concern," Ruane adds.There are currently two cases involving Carfentanil working their way through Federal Court in San Diego. In one, a dealer was caught with 1.77 grams of the drug. In another case, search warrants related to overdose deaths in 2017 led to 20 people charged on 3 separate indictments.So far, only 3 people in San Diego have died from Carfentanil, all in 2017. But the DEA is still sounding the alarm."It's extremely dangerous to the public and that's what we want to get out there," says Ruane.He says drug makers are mixing Carfentanil in counterfeit pills. The fact that just a small quantity will produce a major effect makes it more profitable. Drug manufacturers are including it in pills they try to pass off as Oxycontin or Xanax.Experts say taking a pill like that is the same as playing Russian Roulette."If you're at a pill party and people are distributing pills, you have no idea what's inside," says Assistant US Attorney Sherri Hobson. "Why would you take something when you have no idea what's inside?"Ruane says that most of the illegal pills are made in back rooms, bathrooms, warehouses or other labs with no quality control. That makes them more dangerous because there's no consistency between what's in each pill."You could have two people, they take the same kind of pill from the same batch, and one person is fine while the other one dies," he says.He says the safest thing to do is avoid any pills when you don't know their source."If you're not under treatment from a doctor and you haven't gotten the pill from a legitimate pharmacy, don't take it.
