Student loan borrowers are getting another break.A recent executive order signed by President Trump extends the suspension of payments and interest on federally-held student loans from September 30 to December 31, but certain details are still unclear.“The language isn’t super clear, so we student loan nerds are anxiously awaiting the Department of Education’s guidance, which we are expecting in the next couple of weeks for sure,” said Betsy Mayotte with The Institute of Student Loan Advisors (TISLA).Borrowers have reported their loan servicers are also awaiting direction from the Department of Education.Aside from a break in payments, Mayotte said there are programs borrowers in default should take advantage of during this COVID period.“Loan rehabilitation is kind of an awesome and unique thing for the federal student loan program. If you make nine consecutive on-time payments in an amount that’s based on your income, so the payments can be as low as , not only are you taken out of default, but they remove the default line from your credit report like it was never there. The Associated Press has obtained text messages that a U.S. Census Bureau supervisor in Alabama sent to workers that told them how to fake counts of households by entering misleading data.According to the AP's report, texts from the supervisor in October laid out how census takers should fake data to mark a household as only having one resident, even if census takers were unsure of how many people lived in the home.The supervisor's text instructed census takers to mark a household as only being occupied by a single person if they made two failed attempts to interview the residents and two failed attempts to reach landlords or neighbors."You are to clear the case indicating occupied by 1," said the text from the census supervisor in Dothan, Alabama.A census worker from Florida who traveled to Alabama to help with areas lagging behind on the county provided the texts to the AP on condition of anonymity to protect her privacy.The Census Bureau says it's investigating and hasn't identified any data irregularities.The attempts to suppress the population count came as Trump administration officials successfully shortened the Census schedule by two weeks. Critics contend that the count was cut short so the Trump administration could enforce an order to exclude undocumented immigrants from the count.Under-counting a given area in the Census suppresses the allocation of resources to that area and skews congressional districts.The Associated Press reports the Census Bureau has denied that it attempted to falsify information during the 2020 census, but the AP has reported that similar instructions were sent to other regions. 1649

Telecommunications company AT&T told its customers on Wednesday evening that they may need to restart their device in order to regain cellular service following a massive service outage. According to the outage tracker Down Detector, a sudden spike in AT&T outages were reported around 6 p.m. ET. Thousands of customers were reporting that their AT&T cellphone service was out. "If you've experienced an issue when making wireless calls, please restart your device, this might be required multiple times- that should resolve the issue," AT&T said on its Twitter page. AT&T said in a statement that it is aware of the outage."We are aware of an issue affecting some users ability to make certain wireless calls. These users should restart their devices, which should resolve the issue," the company said.By 9:30 p.m., outage numbers were returning to normal levels, according to Down Detector.Some customers said that restarting their device did not solve the issue.   1030

Starbucks is temporarily suspending its "Happy Hour" due to rising cases of COVID-19.In an email to E.W. Scripps, the coffee company said the reason behind pausing it was to help cut down on customers in its stores."Given the rise in cases and the current guidance from the scientific community to not gather indoors in large groups for prolonged periods of time, we decided to pause Happy Hours in December and January 7," a spokesperson for Starbucks said in a statement emailed to E.W.
