LAS VEGAS — Neighbors living in a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood were shocked to a see a home in their area vandalized with swastikas.Morley Fulgencio said he noticed the swastikas all over his garage, his driveway and the steps leading up to his front door when he was taking his daughter to school Thursday morning."I was flabbergasted," Fulgencio said.After a short drive around the neighborhood, Fulgencio realized that only his house was the one vandalized. He said he has no idea why his home was singled out.Fulgencio said he hopes this was just a prank. Neighbors rallied together to show support, knocking on his door to help. (KGTV) -- A man suspected in a reported domestic disturbance led sheriff’s deputies on brief pursuit and then barricaded himself in a Lakeside home for several hours before finally surrendering.At around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, San Diego County sheriff’s officials said deputies were dispatched to a home in the 11600 block of Hi Ridge Road in Lakeside over a domestic disturbance report.According to officials, a woman had locked herself in a bedroom with her two children and was “hiding from the estranged father of the children who was inside her home.”When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw a man -- later identified as 39-year-old Dustin Banzhof -- drive away from the home, prompting deputies to pursue him. Banzhof eventually made his way back to the house on Hi Ridge Road.Deputies believed Banzhof was armed with a gun and had fired it multiples times, possibly in the direction of deputies. One deputy returned fire, forcing the suspect to head inside the home and he refused to come out.It is unknown how many shots were fired.Banzhof finally came out of the house at around 2:30 a.m. Monday and surrendered to deputies.According to sheriff’s officials, Banzhof was arrested on multiple unspecified charges. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, but no other details were released.No injuries were reported in the incident.Officials said the sheriff’s Homicide Unit is investigating the matter. 1437

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (KABC) -- A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was killed after being hit by a vehicle on the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore Saturday. The officer was hit by a sedan near Nichols Road at about 4:30 p.m. and airlifted to a hospital, prompting a closure of the southbound lanes. The officer killed was identified by CHP in a social media post as Sgt. Steve Licon. "Our hearts are heavy after the immeasurable loss of a friend, father, husband, and hero," the social media post said. The southbound lanes of the freeway were fully closed from Indian Truck Trail to Nichols Road due to a police investigation, Caltrans said. (KGTV) — The mother of a 13-year-old boy killed crossing San Miguel Avenue in Lemon Grove may sue the city for not making the street safer.Tanya Harris, whose son Trevon died in May, filed a claim against the city of Lemon Grove for allegedly ignoring continuing issues on the two-lane road. On May 3, Trevon was crossing the street after visiting a friend's house when he was hit by a car and killed. Tanya and Trevon's brother, Ty, who is only nine, arrived to see him lifeless on the asphalt."When I came up on the road, I immediately saw the body on the road," Tanya said. "When I pulled over, I ran out because I knew it was my child's body that was on the ground."Tanya says Trevon had an infectious smile and had dreams of playing professional basketball. Tanya and Ty are now in grief counseling, which Tanya said is helping.Meanwhile, San Miguel Avenue remains a two-lane road, and the area Trevon was hit doesn't have any speed bumps or stop signs. That's the basis for the claim, which accuses the city of ignoring the risks for years. "It has gravel all over it, and divots and pots, which causes drivers to skid and slide" said Rhonda Holmes, an attorney representing Tanya Harris. "More importantly, people are known to speed down that road."Lemon Grove City Manager Lydia Romero said the city can't comment on pending litigation. (KGTV) - The family of an 11-year-old boy who was killed in the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka held a celebration of life ceremony in Lakeside Wednesday night.They gathered on a trail in Oak Oasis County Park to remember Kieran Shafritz de Zoysa, on what would have been his 12th birthday.About a mile down the trail, they unveiled a new bench with a plaque in his memory, telling future hikers to “Be like Kieran.”“Kieran’s mindset was always about helping others,” said Alex Arrow, his father who lives in Lakeside.“He was the greatest ray of light that my life has ever seen,” said Dhulsini de Zoysa, Kieran’s mother.Both parents described him as curious, intelligent and empathetic.“He was just a sponge.
