SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Did you tidy up with Marie Kondo’s Netflix series? Do you have unwanted junk in your garage? The City of San Diego is inviting residents to donate big items at a recycling event Saturday. Disposal services will be available at SDCCU Stadium in Mission Valley from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. City of San Diego residents can drop off appliances, furniture, electronics, televisions, and other bulky belongings. Smaller recyclable items including batteries and light bulbs will also be accepted. Goodwill Industries of San Diego County and Urban Corps of San Diego will accept items and mattresses. The donation and recycling event is part of the Clean SD initiative to reduce illegal dumping. 707

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Forbes has released its list of America’s best employers of 2018 and two San Diego employers made the list.Both Qualcomm and the County of San Diego made the list coming in at 111 and 268.According to Forbes, Qualcomm employs more than 30,000 people and the County of San Diego employs over 20,000 people.Qualcomm made headlines recently after news that President Trump blocked Broadcom’s 7 billion bid to buy the company citing national security concerns. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Health officials are asking residents, schools, and businesses to prepare for the novel coronavirus. In a message posted on County News Center Thursday, the county urged people to prepare “for a potential outbreak” of the virus. “It’s important for everyone to educate themselves and their family and be prepared in case the new coronavirus makes its way to San Diego County,” said Chairman Greg Cox, County Board of Supervisors. “It’s also important for people not to panic as the risk for this new virus and the disease that it causes continues to be low.”RELATED: San Diego County AT&T store worker's initial coronavirus test comes back positiveBelow is list of what health officials say you can do to prepare: Store a two-week supply of food, beverages and water, including food for family pets. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Democrats' 5-4 majority on the technically nonpartisan San Diego City Council will increase to 6-3, a majority immune to Mayor Kevin Faulconer's veto.Democrat physician Jennifer Campbell defeated Republican incumbent District 2 City Councilwoman Lorie Zapf, winning 56 percent to 44 percent.  The subtraction of one Republican could have a major impact in terms of the balance of power. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Francis Parker School officials say a vendor that handles some of the school's backup data was victim of a ransomware attack in May. The school says third-party cloud computing provider, Blackbaud, Inc., notified them on July 16 of the cyberattack. Criminals demanded payment in return for destroying information they copied from Blackbaud's database, the school said.School officials warned parents that the compromised database may have included contact information, birth dates, and a history of relationships with the school, including donation dates and amounts. The school said the attackers did not access credit card information, social security, or other personal financial information and had no access to the school's systems.Blackbaud paid the ransomware and says based on the nature of the incident and investigations with law enforcement, there's no reason to believe any data went beyond the cybercriminals or was, or will be, misused.Francis Parker officials said they are reevaluating their relationship with Blackbaud.
