Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz has admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with a female reporter, three days after she made online allegations against the married Berkowitz.In a statement, Berkowitz apologized to the people of Anchorage for a “major lapse” in judgment in having what he said was a consensual, inappropriate messaging relationship with TV anchorwoman Maria Athens. The acknowledgment comes at the end of three days that roiled Alaska’s largest city, a span that saw both his denial of accusations Athens made on Facebook and her arrest. An Idaho couple is now facing more charges in connection with the disappearance and deaths of two children.Chad Daybell now faces four felony charges for evidence destruction or concealment. Lori Vallow Daybell is facing two counts of conspiracy to commit destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence, according to the iCourt Portal, in addition to other charges.The new charges come after Rexburg police served a search warrant at Chad Daybell’s Salem, Idaho home on Monday. Officers went into the house, exterior buildings, and were seen in the backyard with cameras. They left with brown evidence bags but it is not known if the search is tied to the new charges of conspiracy. She’s been in the Madison County Jail on million bail.Idaho officials discovered the remains of 7-year-old JJ Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan. buried in Daybell's backyard on June 9. The two are Vallow Daybell's children. JJ and Tylee were reported missing in late 2019. Their remains were found in Rexburg, Idaho, in June on property owned by Daybell, their stepfather. The children's mother, Lori Daybell (née Vallow), was arrested in connection with their disappearance earlier this year.According to the probable cause affidavit for Daybell's arrest, the remains of one child was found wrapped in plastic and sealed with duct tape. As COVID-19 cases surge across the country, an increasing number of couples are suddenly revamping their living wills to include specific language about what to do if someone in their family catches the novel coronavirus and may not be able to make medical decisions for themselves.“I think like a lot of people it certainly caused us to take a step back and say, ‘wow, these types of black swan events happen,’” said Adam Neale, who recently updated his living will.Neale and his wife, Dorean, say the grim reality of COVID-19 pushed them to finish estate planning they had been putting off for years. But the pandemic hasn't only led to a spike in families planning out their estates, it's also changed the way couples are looking at end-of-life care.“What we’ve seen is this heightened sense of awareness of people’s mortality, which has created a heightened sense of urgency in the market, explained Denise McCarthy, an estate attorney in the Boston area.“I don’t think people have thought about ventilators the way they’re thinking about them now.”McCarthy is now recommending couples write in COVID-19 specific language to their wills, like what to do if one spouse ends up on a ventilator.
