GRASS VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV and AP) — The body of a woman found in a shallow Northern California grave may be an aspiring model and actress from Macedonia who vanished in Los Angeles last month, authorities said. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office said the body found Tuesday has not been identified. Los Angeles Police said they believe the remains are those of 25-year-old Adea Shabani, KABC reported. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.Sheriff's Lt. Rob Bringolf said Los Angeles police detectives searching for Shabani led investigators to the grave 56 miles (90 kilometers) north of Sacramento. Shabani was last seen in Hollywood on Feb. 23.An acquaintance of Shabani's fatally shot himself in the head last week. The California Highway Patrol said 33-year-old Chris Spotz led officers on a Southern California vehicle pursuit that ended with his death in Riverside County. The CHP said Spotz was driving a stolen pickup. 950

HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — Joe Biden said he would be open to breaking up Facebook, a sign of the deep skepticism among many Democratic presidential contenders about the power of massive technology firms. In an interview on Monday with The Associated Press, the former vice president said that dismantling large technology companies is "something we should take a really hard look at."Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has been the most outspoken Democratic presidential candidate to press for greater regulation of Silicon Valley's most prominent companies. While Biden didn't fully embrace her proposal — saying it's "premature" to make a final judgment — he praised Warren and said she "has a very strong case to be made" for cracking down on tech giants. The comments demonstrate how Facebook is increasingly a flashpoint in the campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, with some candidates arguing the influence of such companies is unchecked, allowing misinformation to poison the public debate. Sen. Kamala Harris of California said this weekend that she was open to revamping Facebook, telling CNN the company is essentially a public utility. But Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey told ABC that such calls aren't very different from the tough tactics President Donald Trump takes against his enemies.Regardless of whether Facebook is ultimately broken up, Biden told the AP that the Trump administration hasn't done enough to enforce antitrust laws in a variety of industries. 1498

Harmless Halloween decor or something more?Residents in a Phoenix neighborhood say they were alarmed to see their neighbor's display featuring four bloodied sheets hanging from a tree with nooses around the necks. One woman said she's offended by the decorations and feels they are extremely inappropriate."My most generous assessment is that it is a defiant, very racist act to make people feel unwelcome in this community, and it's heartbreaking," neighbor Amanda Gilmore said.Phoenix-based KNXV spoke to the homeowner, who said the decorations were simply up for a Halloween party and he did not anticipate the reactions from his neighbors. He took down the display after hearing the objections. 720

Homicide detectives in Florida are investigating what they say appear to be the discovery of human remains after a jogger found something and notified the St. Petersburg Police Department. #stpetepd investigating human head found on the side of the road on 38th Av S between 31st and 34th St. South. Anyone with info call 727-893-7780 pic.twitter.com/zoICcaYvpI— St. Pete Police (@StPetePD) July 7, 2020 The area is used by several drivers to cut to busy 34th Street South and police officers hope someone may have seen something suspicious while driving on 38th Avenue S.The area where the remains were found does not have any surveillance cameras and is not in direct view of many homes or businesses, according to detectives.Officers spent hours Tuesday looking in the wooded area around the overpass but did not find the rest of the body.Ernest Lee lives in the neighborhood and says he was in disbelief Tuesday morning as the path he walks several times a week turned into a crime scene.“I do a lot of walking and we have a whole community that walks around here so I’m surprised none of us came across it," Lee explained. “The whole neighborhood is concerned because that could be someone we know.”Detectives say the woman who found the remains told police she jogs in the area often but did not see anything suspicious during her previous run in the same area over the weekend.Rafael Lopez, a spokesperson for the St. Petersburg Police Department says it is too early to determine the gender, age or race of the remains. Lopez also said the head was decomposed and it is unknown how long the remains may have been present near the road.“We do have a wooded area on both ends so although we are in the center of the city, it occurred in a pocket where it is pretty hard to determine if anyone saw anything at all," Lopez added. "We’re asking the public if they saw anything or were around this area in the last several days to give us a call.”This story is developing.
