BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah met with visiting Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo here on Monday.During the meeting, Hassanal said that Brunei and China enjoyed long-run friendly exchanges and the Brunei-China relationship developed smoothly since the two countries established the diplomatic ties nearly 20 years ago.Hassanal said that cooperation between Brunei and China in various fields were also fruitful since then and he was delighted that he had cemented friendship with Chinese leaders.The Brunei royal family and the government attached great importance to developing close and friendly ties with China, and Brunei will continue to stick to the One China policy and strengthen cooperation in economic and trade and energy with China, he said.Hassanal expressed thanks for China's assistance in helping Brunei develop technologies for paddy production and expected more achievements in this field.Dai said that China and Brunei are traditional good neighbors and the two countries have extensive common interests and broad space for cooperation.The bilateral relations developed swiftly since the two countries established the diplomatic ties in 1991, Dai said.Dai noted that China is willing to further its friendly exchanges with Brunei, based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.China is willing to support and participate in Brunei's strategies to diversify its economy and encourage China's enterprises to invest in Brunei and expand cooperation in economic and trade, energy and agriculture, etc.On Monday, Dai also met with Brunei Foreign and Trade Minister Mohamed Bolkiah and Second Foreign and Trade Minister Lim Jock Seng.Dai arrived here on Sunday on an official visit to the sultanate.

GUIYANG, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- The eight workers who were trapped Friday in a collapsed railway tunnel in southwestern Guizhou Province were rescued Saturday afternoon.Rescuers drilled a shaft leading to the trapped workers and took them out from the tunnel. BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Monday urged political advisors to offer practical suggestions to the country's pressing task of coping with climate change.Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a political advisory body, made the call as he presided over a lecture given to the Standing Committee of the 11th CPPCC National Committee.Xie Zhenhua, Vice Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and one of China's leading negotiators for climate change talks, gave committee members a lecture about key climate change issues and China's stands on them.The lecture is aimed at helping the members, whose main duty is to use their expertise to give suggestions to policy makers, to familiarize with and pay more attentions to the issue.Jia said while the global climate change is a major challenge for all countries, China's handling of the issue could impact on the country's overall economic and social development as well as the people's interests.Jia asked the members to conduct further studies in accelerating the adjustment of economic growth mode, industrial and energy structure, and controlling greenhouse gas emissions so as to offer advice to help the country to cope with problems in its development.

 BEIJING, March 22 -- Followings are regions set to be new driving force for China's economy.Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regionXinjiang literally means "New Frontier", and it is promising to be a new economic frontier in China's northwestern areas. Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region has abundant oil reserves and it is the largest natural gas-producing region in China. An economic development plan for Xinjiang is expected to come out soon. It will emphasize use of Xinjiang's advantageous resources, including petrochemicals, coal, non-ferrous metals and agriculture. The investment is likely to rise steadily over the next three years, driven by increased financial support from central government and neighboring provinces, and large-scale investment for key projects from State-owned companies. The rising tourism industry will also be a contributor to Xinjiang's economic growth.Tibet autonomous regionThe Tibet autonomous region is becoming another hotspot in China's regional economic development. The plateau region was traditionally dependent on farming and herding. Recently Tibet laid out a plan to explore its mineral resources, while pledging to stick to rational exploitation and minimizing the damage to the natural environment. The government announced plans to achieve "leapfrog development" in Tibet in January, including building the region into a "strategic reserve of natural resources" with the aim of reducing poverty among the Tibetan people. Tibet has more than 3,000 proven mineral reserves and it has China's biggest proven chromium and copper deposits. According to the plan, mineral resources will contribute at least 30 percent to the regional GDP over the next 10 years. Tourism will continue to play a significant role in supporting the economy.
