Buoyed by Pfizer's promising update on a potential COVID-19 vaccine and Saturday's presidential election call, U.S. markets skyrocketed on Monday morning as investors eyed the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped more than 1,300 points in the moments after trading opened, an increase of about 5%. The NASDAQ saw an increase of about 150 points, or about 1%, while the S&P 500 jumped 120 points or about 3%.The Dow closed Monday at 29,157, which is up nearly 3% from Friday's close. The Dow has almost made a full recovery from its February 12 high point of 29,551. The jump came hours after Pfizer announced that is COVID-19 vaccine candidate has been 90% effective so far in promoting protection against the virus in Phase 3 trials. While the announcement does not mean a vaccine is imminent — in fact, it could be more than six months before most Americans will have a chance to get the vaccine — it does mean Pfizer is on track to apply for Emergency Usa Authorization in the coming months.Pfizer's stock exploded in early trading Monday, jumping about 3 points or an increase of 8%.Monday continues what has been a roller coaster 2020 for American markets. After the pandemic led to historic drops in February and March, markets have rallied in recent months and erased most of those losses. Monday's gains have so fae wiped out loses from October, which were caused by Congress' decision not to pursue more COVID-19 stimulus before the end of the current legislative term. 1533

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — The holiday shopping season is here. And, if we're going to be stuck inside our homes, we might as well make it fun.Get the family together for the newest competitive indoor game, created right here in Colorado. You're in good company this week with Shuffle Golf, which was developed in Centennial and is now available through Walmart's website.Just as the name suggests, it's a combination of shuffleboard and miniature golf."When people start playing, they realize how challenging the game is," said Jeff Storey, the founder of parent company i-Play. "But, the rules are so simple on how to learn."Prior to the pandemic, i-Play created interactive games for kids."We have these floor projection games, table projection games, that are all interactive," Storey said. But seeing a need for more at-home entertainment, and noticing a gap in the golf game market, Storey and his team entered Shuffle Golf into Walmart's Open Call for U.S.-manufactured products. It's an effort by the retail giant to inject millions into America's small businesses. Shuffle Golf won distribution out of 5,000 submissions."The buyer recognized the concept is cool," Storey said. "It's different. It's a quality game. It's made in America. And, that's exactly what Walmart is doing today."The game uses a vibrant carpet mat, which allows for two-way putting, has various scoring sections around the green, and includes negative scores for sand and water hazards. And, you can knock your opponents' ball off the course."It's a great educational tool for math for young kids," Storey said. "And, parents now are having to teach their kids and home school and so forth."But, Storey said the game is great for all ages and all skill levels. And, it can get competitive. It's teeing up the fun, just in time for the holidays."Now, (families) have a new game to play, outside your Bocce Ball, or Monopoly, or all these different traditional games," Storey said. "It's a new game for families to engage in."Shuffle Golf is available through Walmart.com. It will be on store shelves in the spring of 2021.i-Play is donating 10% of its profits from Shuffle Golf to Children’s Hospital Colorado. This story was first reported by Brian Sanders at KMGH in Denver, Colorado. 2263

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — A German father and son had the summer vacation of a lifetime spanning seven countries, eight cities, and eight theme parks.Better yet, they pulled off the feat in a mere 13 days.Dieter Deussen and his five-year-old son, Julian, finished the last leg of their journey to visit all Legoland theme parks in the world Tuesday. Deussen began the trek wanting to give his son a special experience before he starts school for the first time in September, according to Legoland.RELATED: Legoland offers guests free admission on their birthday in 2019His son being a big Lego fan, Deussen suggested the global tour. The trip took the father eight months of planning, hours he said he would never trade. “100 percent it was worth it. To see Julian smile so much at every park and interact with children from around the world, regardless of the language difference, was amazing for me to see. I would absolutely do it again," Deussen said.In less than two weeks, the duo completed a world tour of all eight of the theme parks:June 27 – LEGOLAND Windsor June 28 – LEGOLAND BillundJune 30 – LEGOLAND DeutschlandJuly 1 – LEGOLAND DubaiJuly 3 – LEGOLAND MalaysiaJuly 5 – LEGOLAND JapanJuly 7 – LEGOLAND CaliforniaJuly 8-9 – LEGOLAND FloridaIn Carlsbad, the father and son began their stay at the Legoland Castle Hotel, before exploring Miniland U.S.A, the deep sea on the Lego City Deep Sea Adventure Submarine ride, and meeting a throng of Lego characters. And, of course, playing with a bunch of Legos.RELATED: Recreation Destination: San Diego ranks at top of U.S. citiesLegoland says the pair's journey isn't quite complete though. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - Members of the North San Diego County Genealogical Society have found a way to help Camp Fire victims recover some of what they lost in December's devastating fire. They're donating dozens of boxes of books on history and genealogy to the Paradise Genealogy Society."When we heard about the fire, we thought, wow, we have a lot of books that we don’t know what to do with," says NSDCGS President Julianne Adamik. "As you can see, they’re taking up a lot of room in my garage!"The Paradise Genealogy Society lost their entire library in the fire. Before and after pictures show the building burned to the ground. It housed nearly 2,800 books and another 500 periodicals and articles about genealogy, the study of ancestry. While some of it, like local records, is irreplaceable, the members of the NSDCGS say the books they can give will help the people in Paradise start to rebuild."You need a distraction. You need to get back to your old ways in life," says NSDCGS Vice President Tom Cousineau. "These people were working on their Genealogy fairly regularly and they need to get back to their normal way of life."Many of the books are duplicates of books the NSDCSS already has in their library in Carlsbad. Adamik says they get donations all the time from people looking to clear some space or from estates of genealogy fans who have passed away.Volunteers have also searched sites like eBay to see if any of the books are worth selling. Adamik says the society in Paradise could do that as a fundraiser. The only catch in the plan is figuring out a way to get more than 40 boxes of books from Carlsbad to Paradise. Adamik says they're looking into creating a palate that can be shipped or finding someone willing to drive them up in a truck.A representative from the Paradise Genealogy Society says the donations will be beneficial and they appreciate all the support the NSDCGS has given them over the past few months. 1955

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police arrested a Cape Coral man Sunday morning for taking target practice in his apartment after adjoining neighbors found bullet holes in their bedroom.61-year-old Ivan Bakh is charged with Shooting Into a Dwelling, and Reckless Discharge of Firearm in Public/Private Place.According to Cape Coral Police, neighbors reported being woken up by a loud bang and found a large hole in their headboard, right over their heads.Further investigation also found bullet holes into the opposite wall and in the far wall of the adjacent living room.Police contacted the next door neighbor, Bakh, in the apartment building located in the 3400 block of Skyline Boulevard.  Officers located the room opposite the neighbor's bedroom, which contained a large thick book against the wall with a red circle drawn on it.  The book appeared to be used as a target, and had been penetrated by three rounds.A 9mm casing was located in the hallway between the bathroom and the bedroom of Bakh's residence. Also located inside the home was a safe containing a 9mm Glock. The rounds located inside the magazine of the Glock handgun were a match to the 9mm spent casing located on the ground inside the residence. Bakh was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail. 1305
