It’s a car garage operated by women for women, so they can learn the skills to enter the auto industry and empower them to break barriers.“We have women who have come through who are talented bakers who found that the welding technique for TIG was pretty similar to baking cake. We also had women who were nail technicians who found the bodywork to be one to one with other life experiences that they had,” expressed Shawnda Williams, co-owner of Girl Gang Garage.Williams was once a ‘newbie’ at Girl Gang Garage but soon became passionate about the garage’s mission that she became a business partner with Bogi Lateiner.Now both women run Girl Gang Garage, a place that welcomes anyone looking to try something different.“When we teach these women how to work on these vehicles they’re really learning that this thing that they were afraid of isn’t so scary after all. And if that’s not so scary then what else in their life may not be so scary after all,” stated Lateiner.Whether it is mechanical work, welding, or body and paint. Any woman entering this garage will leave with a new trade skill, but also with a mission. They’re learning that they can weld that they can use tools and cut things and to not be intimidated by this stuff. WHAT TO KNOW The nearly 400-foot-long CBX pedestrian bridge starts in Otay Mesa, east of Brown Field, and connects the United States with Aeropuerto Internacional de Tijuana. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agents monitor the CBX. Passengers must have a plane ticket and passport to use the CBX. Only travelers may use the bridge; the CBX is not an open border entry. There is a fee to use the CBX, which can be purchased online or on-site. Concessions, including Starbucks, are available at the CBX. In addition to flights throughout Mexico, there are two non-stop flights available to China. Part of the cure for COVID-19 might be found in sharks dwelling deep in our oceans.“Everybody’s, ‘oh, there’s a hundred million being taken anyway, why are you worried about vaccine?’” said Stefanie Brendl of Shark Allies, a nonprofit for shark conservation.She says during the pandemic, more sharks are being harvested for squalene, an oil found in their livers and is often used to increase the effectiveness of vaccines.“The more products we come up with that require shark parts, the more we’re fueling this 100,000,000 sharks a year number,” she said.Brendl says many pharmaceutical companies are using shark squalene to produce a coronavirus vaccine and that if everyone in the world received two doses, 500,000 sharks would have to be slaughtered to meet the demand.“We need to look at this and we need to hold the vaccine companies accountable to test alternatives,” she said.One of the companies, Brendl, is calling out pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, which plans on manufacturing 1 billion doses of a “pandemic vaccine” in 2021.While GSK says squalene pulled from shark livers is used in some of its vaccines, the company claims it’s also exploring squalene found in some plants.“One research team has tried to make in yeast so you could grow cultures of yeasts similar to fermenting beer,” said David Kroll, Ph.D., a professor of pharmacology at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus.He says finding a cure for coronavirus will be the biggest vaccine undertaking in recent medical history.“The biggest concern is whether more sharks are going to have to be killed for this monumental global effort,” Kroll said.Shark experts believe this is a global challenge.“Many of the sharks that are being targeted are deep sea sharks and they’re found in open ocean environments that may not be protected,” said Chris Lowe, a professor of marine biology and director of the Shark Lab at California State University, Long Beach.He says tens of millions of sharks are already killed each year and some companies poach shark corpses for squalene to make numerous products ranging from vaccines to cosmetics.Lowe warns an increase in killings could impact our ecosystem.“Those animals play a very important role that could affect people on land,” he said.While the cost of a cure for COVID-19 is still unknown, Lowe says killing more sharks could mean extinction for several shark species. 2414

"He not only found it. He also called 911 and made sure we got our jewelry back."Joe and his wife Elif Fitzgerald attended an annual Denim and Diamonds charity event for Hands Across the Bay Saturday night. That's why Elif Fitzgerald had expensive pieces of jewelry with her.The Fitzgeralds were one of the sponsors for the event, and they had a lot to pack up at the end of the night. Joe Fitzgerald says he put most of the luggage in the back of his trunk, including his wife's luggage, with the jewelry in it."On my way home the back hatch opened and the bag fell out near West Bay Dr. and Indian Rocks Rd." he said.The Fitzgeralds had no idea the bag was gone, "until I looked at my phone."Elif Fitzgerald said she had dozens of missed calls and text messages telling her someone found their bag and the jewelry in it."I was completely shocked that they returned it," she said. "I have valuable jewelry.
