(AP) — A convicted felon has been charged with abducting two Christian college students and forcing them to perform sex acts on each other at gunpoint after they violated curfew and were locked out of their southwest Missouri campus.Robert Hyslop, 49, of Branson, Missouri, is jailed without bond on charges of kidnapping, sexual abuse and sodomy, the Springfield News-Leader reported. No attorney is listed for Hyslop in online court records. He could face life in prison if convicted.College of the Ozarks, in the small town of Point Lookout, has a 1 a.m. curfew. Gates to the front entrance, known as the Gates of Opportunity, remain locked until 5 a.m.Charging documents say the two students, a male and a female, arrived back at campus 10 minutes too late in the early hours of Oct. 29, so they went to a nearby commuter lot to sleep.Hyslop, who was on probation for a 2017 drug conviction, told Taney County investigator Dan Luttrell that he had been high on methamphetamine for three days when he spotted the sleeping students around 3 a.m., court records say. Hyslop allegedly used a hammer to smash the passenger window, showed a gun, and got inside the car.Luttrell said Hyslop admitted forcing the male student to drive to a highway lookout. Once there, he allegedly forced the students to perform sex acts on each other, and forced the woman to touch him sexually.Hyslop then told the students to drive him back to his car, Luttrell wrote. The students contacted police and gave a detailed description of their attacker and his vehicle. He was arrested several days later. Charges were filed Thursday.College of the Ozarks spokeswoman Valorie Coleman said the college received a report about the incident on Oct. 29 and issued a campus safety alert on Oct. 30. She declined further comment about the alleged crime.Sue Head, the college's vice president for cultural affairs and dean of character education, said students can call a 24-hour security number to unlock the gate."We do have the phone number posted clearly at the front gate," Head said.Coleman and Head said there are legitimate reasons for students to break curfew, including working off-campus jobs. But, she said, "If they are habitually late, they are going to have to have a conversation with the dean of students."Coleman said the college has offered the students confidential counseling."We are sick over this incident for the students. We are trying to protect their privacy," Coleman said. "The fact that all the details have been in the media, I just hate that for them."A campus for another school, Ozarks Technical Community College, also is near the commuter lot. PALA (CNS) - A blaze broke out early Tuesday morning in a trailer northeast of Pala, killing a man who lived inside, authorities said. The fire on Magee Road north of state Route 76 was reported around 12:20 a.m., Cal Fire spokesman Issac Sanchez said. Firefighters responded and found a single-wide trailer fully engulfed in flames, Sanchez said. Crews knocked down the flames in just under an hour, then searched the trailer and found a man dead inside, Sanchez said. The age and name of the victim were not immediately available. Investigators from the sheriff's Bomb/Arson unit were sent to the scene, and an investigation was underway into what sparked the blaze. 676

Police Chief Mike Koval in Madison, Wisconsin arrested WISC-TV Meteorologist Dave Caufield during a live newscast for "stealing spring," according to the station.Koval and Capt. Cory Nelson 'arrested' Caufield for charges of spreading false hope for warmer weather and not following through on promises."You are so infatuated with breaking records that we believe you are instigating this prolonged pain and misery," Koval said.Caufield said he's taking the fall for Mother Nature's crimes.Although we're all upset about the weather, the only one to blame here is Mother Nature herself. PHOENIX, Arizona — A license plate could be the very thing driving technology forward and it is being tested in Arizona. The Arizona Department of Transportation said it is working with the technology company "Reviver" to test digital license plates on about a dozen of its vehicles. Spokesperson Doug Nick described it basically as an iPad that goes in place of the plate on the back of the vehicle. Arizona is just one of two states that currently have these plates on the road — the other is California, Reviver reps said.Nick said ADOT is always open to innovation and picking our state to test is a no-brainer, especially with our weather.  "Arizona has always been a really good state for innovation," he said. "Car companies have tested here for years to see how their vehicles perform, so it's not a stretch to say, 'Well, let's take a look at how some of the accessories, like a license plate. How does that perform on a vehicle?'" As testing continues, the goal is to go far beyond just displaying the plate. "You can update this [the license plate] and it has the capabilities of potentially having other functions on there... maybe messages that are of help to the public, like Amber Alerts," Nick said. "That might be something that could be done on this."It could also alert police if a vehicle is stolen, if a registration tag is expired, or more consumer-focused items like displaying specialty plates. But, all of that is still in the early stages of testing. Could digital plates save ADOT money?Representative Michelle Ugenti-Rita?introduced a?bill into the state legislator this year that would eliminate vehicle registration stickers, possibly saving .8 million in labor and postage.ADOT did not comment on the bill and is not yet clear on the kind of money-saving aspects the technology may provide.Nick said the state has been testing it for less than a year and there is no set timeline on when the testing will stop or if it will expand. 2077

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals echoed a string of other courts in finding his campaign offered no evidence of any election fraud. Instead, the court said “the campaign's claims have no merit.” Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani called the election process fraudulent during oral arguments in a lower court last week, but offered no proof.
