The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning to foodservice providers Wednesday to not use hard-boiled eggs produced by a Georgia company due to an outbreak of Listeria. The CDC says hard-boiled eggs produced by Almark Foods in Gainesville, Georgia is the cause of a Listeria outbreak that has killed one and sickened seven people in five states. The agency warned that consumers ordering foods that are made with hard-boiled eggs, like egg salad or deviled eggs, should ask the provider where they buy their hard-boiled eggs. The CDC advises that consumers not purchase those products if the provider uses Almark eggs or the provider does not know from where the eggs come. The CDC clarified that the Listeria outbreak was only limited to mass-produced eggs provided to food service providers, and the warning does not include Almark hard-boiled eggs that were sold directly in stores or other hard-boiled eggs sold in stores and restaurants.Symptoms of listeria incluide headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions in addition to fever and muscle aches. Symptoms can present themselves between one and four weeks after consuming food tainted with the bacteria. People on dialysis, people with cancer and pregnant women are more likely to contract the disease than others. 1324

The Dow fell 460 points Friday as a leading indicator of a US recession and concern about a global slowdown spooked investors. The index shed 1.8%, while the S&P 500 closed down 1.9%. The Nasdaq plunged 2.5%. It was the worst performance for all three major indexes since January 3.The yield on 3-month Treasuries rose above the rate on 10-year Treasuries for the first time since 2007 — a shift that scared Wall Street. Investors have piled back into stocks after a sell-off in late 2018.The flattening yield curve, or the difference between short- and long-term rates, has worried investors for months. A narrowing spread is typically seen as sign that long-term confidence in the economy is waning, which could signal an eventual economic contraction.Friday's flip added to pressure on the Dow that was building before US markets opened. The index stumbled at the bell on poor manufacturing data from Germany, which also spelled trouble for the country's bond market. The yield on Germany's benchmark 10-year government bond fell below zero for the first time since October 2016.All of that news is fueling Wall Street's ongoing concerns about slowing global growth.White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told CNBC last year that the spread between 3-month and 10-year Treasury yields was important to watch."It's actually not 10s to 2s; it's 10s to 3-month Treasury bills," Kudlow 1402
The man suspected of killing 20 people and injuring 26 others in El Paso on Saturday may face hate crime and capital murder charges, officials said.Police say a document they believe was written by the 21-year-old white male suspect has a "nexus to a potential hate crime."The four-page document posted online espouses white nationalist and racist views. It rails against immigrants and Hispanics, blaming immigrants and first-generation Americans for taking away jobs and for the blending of cultures in the US."Right now, we have a manifesto from this individual that indicates to some degree he has a nexus to a potential hate crime," El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen said at a press conference.FBI El Paso Special Agent in Charge Emmerson Buie said more investigation is needed before determining that the mass shooting was a hate crime."Right now, it is a murder investigation," Buie said. "There is potential for a number of different other violations, and we're reviewing all the evidence to make a determination as to what potentially else is out there, in addition to the violations that have been stated that the local authorities are pursuing."The suspect has been identified as Patrick Crusius of Allen, just outside Dallas, three sources told CNN. Two federal law enforcement sources and one state government source confirmed the suspect's identity. The suspect surrendered to police "without incident," police spokesman Sgt. Robert Gomez told reporters. The document police believe the suspect wrote was posted on 8chan, an online messaging board full of racist, bigoted and anti-Semitic content. A CNN analysis of the document reveals it was posted less than 20 minutes before police received the first calls about the shootings."This is disgusting, intolerable. It's not Texan," Abbott told reporters who asked about the document. "We are going to aggressively prosecute it both as capital murder, but also as a hate crime, which is what it appears to be, without having seen all the evidence yet."The FBI has opened a domestic terrorism investigation, to be worked concurrently to the state investigation into the shooting, with Texas authorities taking the lead, a source familiar with the investigative process told CNN.The FBI, the source indicated, is bringing resources from neighboring satellite offices and assets are on standby to assist should the state request.President Donald Trump called the mass shooting an "act of cowardice," and said there "are no reasons or excuses that will ever justify killing people."In his messages on Twitter, Trump said he and the first lady sent "heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the great people of Texas." 2677
The latest version of Monopoly is taking on a big social issue – the gender pay gap. It’s called Ms. Monopoly. The rules are a bit altered from the original board game to give female players a leg up. Women start with ,900, while men only start with ,500. Women also get 0 for passing go and men get the standard 0. There are some cards that give advantages to the men but they are limited. Some have criticized the new version of the game, calling it a gimmick. Others, however, say it sends a great message about gender equality. "Choosing the gender gap in wage is I think pretty bold and it's you know Monopoly is played majority by kids and so reaching them in an early age and telling the gals that they're just as valued if not more valued than men based on what they do. I think it's a great story," said Keith Meyers, owner of Board Game Republic. Meyers started working in the board game industry as a teen and is well aware of this the game and its social commentary. "I know some of the people who work at Hasbro and I applaud them for their efforts in what they've done," said Meyers. If you know the history of Monopoly, this new version is especially interesting because of who originally created the popular board game. "A mistaken conception is hat Charles Darrow was the inventor of it but it was actually Elizabeth Magie," said Meyers. "It was based off of Elizabeth Magie’s game that was actually built to show the bad side of monopolies and you know the whole tenant landlord issues."Ms. Monopoly pays homage to monopoly's original intent nearly 100 year ago. The game is also teaching a younger generation that women can make as much as men do, if not more. 1702
