CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A ruptured gas line forced one building to evacuate in Chula Vista Friday.Chula Vista fire crews discovered a one-inch gas line sheared with gas blowing in the 100 block of 3rd Avenue around 3 p.m. A nearby building was evacuated, according to CVFD.Nearby Fredericka Manor Retirement Community also advised its residents and visitors to shelter in place.Firefighters were not able to immediately determine the cause of the break. SDG&E crews were able to shut off the gas shortly after 5 p.m. 568

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Three people managed to crawl out of their flipped car after it crashed in Chula Vista.According to Chula Vista Police, the crash happened around 1:00 a.m. on East H Street and Otay Lakes Road.Police say the driver was speeding and lost control on a curve, hit the center divider, then started spinning before the car flipped onto its roof.The driver and the two passengers crawled out of the wreckage just as paramedics and police arrived.Two people were taken to a hospital, and the third person was treated at the scene. All of them are expected to be okay.Police believe speed was a factor in the crash. 644

(KGTV) - Legislation needed to advance the Chula Vista Bayfront Project was signed Friday by Governor Jerry Brown.Assembly Bill 2646 authorizes the transfer of a 97-acre parcel of land in Chula Vista to the San Diego Unified Port District. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team [FCMAT] is in place to review financial decisions in the Sweetwater Union High School District amid a severe budget shortfall. Michael Fine of FCMAT said Tuesday his team is investigating the district’s spending. The team is currently reviewing documents and will be in the county later this month to interview personnel within the district, Fine said.The Sweetwater Union High School District is about million in debt for the 2018-2019 school year due to fiscal mismanagement. District officials previously said the shortage was due to expenses from staff raises, including costs of substitute teachers and an unexpected million expense for utilities. RELATED: Financial failures rouse growing concerns in Sweetwater Union High School District board meeting School board members took steps to remedy the crisis, including an early retirement plan for more than 300 staff members, along with administrative layoffs. In early March, the board approved a Fiscal Stabilization Plan in a 5-0 vote, saying it would shave some million from the current school year’s budget shortfall.
