SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego County schools will receive grant funding from the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, it was announced Friday.The foundation, launched in 2006 by NASCAR driver and El Cajon-native Jimmie Johnson and his wife, Chandra Johnson, plans to award 8,000 in grants to seven public schools in the Johnsons' home states of California and Oklahoma and where they currently live in North Carolina.San Diego's Knox Middle School will receive ,206.37 to improve the school's library and WD Hall Elementary School in El Cajon will receive ,096.71 to add a multi-lingual, digital marquee to the school's campus. San Diego (KGTV) -- A 41-year-old woman suffered serious injuries Monday night when she was hit by an SUV while crossing the street in Pacific Beach.Police say the collision happened shortly before 10:40 p.m. on Grand Avenue west of Mission Bay Drive.A 24-year-old woman was driving a 2018 Jeep Cherokee eastbound of Grand Avenue while the victim was crossing the street southbound, then stepped off the center median and was struck by the Jeep. Paramedics took the victim to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with major injuries. She is expected to survive.The driver remained at the scene. 591
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A former longtime San Diego Zoo biologist has pleaded guilty to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the iconic zoo.Matthew John Anderson, 49, of Ramona, Calif., admitted to stealing more than 6,000 through bogus vendor invoices between December 2008 and October 2016, according to the Office of the U.S. Attorney Southern District of California.Investigators say Anderson created 35 fake invoices billing the San Diego Zoo for various payments from purported vendors. The zoo paid the invoices to third parties that then gave the bulk of the payment to Anderson.
