A volunteer in the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine trial in Brazil has reportedly died.According to Bloomberg, the participant hadn't received the company's vaccine, but it's unclear how they died.Brazilian outlet Globo reported that the volunteer was a 28-year-old doctor from Rio de Janeiro who'd been working as a COVID-19 frontline worker.Reuters reported that Anvisa, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency, said the trial would continue but did not provide any further details.Following the news, AstraZeneca shares dropped about 1%, CNBC reported.AstraZeneca's trial has been on hold since Sept. 8, after an unexplained illness popped up in a patient in the United Kingdom.According to Reuters, AstraZeneca plans to resume its trial sometime this week. 770

A Starbucks worker in New Jersey allegedly spat in police officers' drinks, officials said Tuesday.Park Ridge officers arrested Kevin Trejo, 21, on charges of subjecting a law enforcement officer to contact with bodily fluid, knowingly tampering with a cup of coffee while knowing it was ordered by a law enforcement officer and creating a hazardous or physically dangerous condition.In a statement, Park Ridge Police Chief Joseph Madden said Trejo was arrested after an investigation found that he spat in the drinks of officers who patronized the store where he worked.New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Colligan called Trejo's alleged actions "outrageous.""Every time I think we as society hit bottom, there is a new incident," Colligan said. A superintendent in Wisconsin is investigating what he calls a "reprehensible" video showing two students appearing to mock the death of George Floyd. The video has sparked demands for action, and criticism that the Mequon-Thiensville School District needs to do more racism prevention and education. The district is about 30 minutes north of Milwaukee. The video in question shows a high school junior giving two thumbs up, while kneeling on another young man’s neck, who says “I can’t breathe,” while laughing. A third student recorded the video. 556

A man who tried to enter a teenage girl's bathroom stall was confronted and killed by the girl's father, officials say. According to Phoenix police, around 11:30 p.m. on August 2, 40-year-old Melvin Harris went to the QuikTrip near Dunlap and 19th avenues to pick up his teenage daughter and her friends. A man, who would later become the victim, approached Harris' car in the parking lot and asked for money. Harris gave him some money, and he went into the QT. Harris was later informed that a man tried to enter the bathroom stall his daughter was using. The teen told an employee, who in turn alerted an on-duty security guard. The man exited the store and was pointed out to Harris, who realized it was the same man he had given money to earlier. Harris went into the store and told the security guard that, "he needed to take care of the situation, or [Harris] would do it himself." The guard reportedly told Harris he would handle it. According to witnesses, Harris later approached the man and punched him in the face. Witnesses also reportedly told police that Harris stood over him, hitting him in the face several more times. He also allegedly kicked and stomped on him. Harris then left the area. Police identified and located Harris at his home nearby. He reportedly told police that the man punched him first, hitting him in the neck. He denied striking the man when he was down. The victim was taken to the hospital with a broken nose and brain injuries. He later died.Harris has been charged with second-degree murder. 1612

A Memphis woman wants answers after getting a nearly ,000 dollar bill from Memphis Light, Gas and Water.Florence Ford said the utility insisted the astronomical amount is no mistake.They told her a water leak led to the 5-figure bill, but Ford doesn't think MLGW's story is adding up.The 60-year-old brings in just enough every month from disability checks to pay her rent and insurance costs."I had four blood clots, I’ve got nerve damage on the right side and I had a stroke," she said.So, when Ford opened up her bill late January for ,423, she was floored.Her normally bill had skyrocketed to ,995 for water alone, just for one month."What the hell? If I’m on a fixed income, how can I pay a ,000 water bill?" she said.Ford called MLGW and said she was told the massive bill was due to a water leak on her property, and that she’d need a plumber to fix it."Some pipe or something had come loose and they took care of it," she said.According to Ford's bill, her water usage during the month of December was 4,983 CCFs (centum cubic feet). That’s close to 4 million gallons, which is enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool almost six times.MLGW told Ford a representative called her and left a note on her door, but she said before getting that bill, no one from the utility ever reached out to tell her there was a problem."Didn’t call, didn’t leave a voicemail, said they left a note on the door. No note on the door," she said.A friend and former lawyer told Ford it would be impossible not to realize that much water was leaking in front of her home."He said if I had a ,000 water bill, my house should have been floating down the street somewhere," she said.Ford said she spoke to someone at MLGW again, who suggested she file for bankruptcy.The next month she got another bill, leaving her owing nearly ,000, which is just a couple hundred dollars shy of what she brings in in an entire year."If I don’t pay that, they’re going to cut my utilities off, so I’m going to be without utilities," Ford said. "What am I supposed to do? Sit in the dark?"She's also on a breathing machine, which needs electricity to operate.MLGW agreed to credit Ford’s account ,980, but she says that’s not good enough."I think they should squash it.
