LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A driver was taken to the hospital after crashing into a palm tree and a light pole in Lakeside Monday morning. According to authorities, the crash happened along Winter Gardens Boulevard at Winter Gardens Drive around 7 a.m. Police say the driver was heading down Winter Gardens Boulevard when, for an unknown reason, he crashed into a rock and mailbox before slamming into a palm tree and a light pole. Nearby witnesses, one of whom is a nurse, rushed to help the man. He was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. Authorities say speed appears to be a factor in the crash. 616

(CNS) - Three people armed with handguns shot at a business and a vehicle in La Mesa, but no one was struck by the gunfire, police said Wednesday.The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday on El Cajon Boulevard just west of Parks Avenue, La Mesa police Lt. Brian Stoney said.The target of the shooting was an occupied business in a strip mall, Stoney said. The business' front window was shattered by the gunfire. The lieutenant did not disclose the name of the business."This appears to be an isolated incident," Stoney said Tuesday. "And although the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous, we do not believe there is any further threat in this immediate area right now."At least four men were inside the business when officer arrived, but were uninjured, the lieutenant said, adding that the men were detained for questioning.Officers spotted a vehicle driving away from the business with several bullet holes in its windshield, he said. Officers stopped the vehicle and also detained its two occupants, both men, for questioning.Witnesses told police they saw three people armed with handguns open fire on the business and the vehicle before fleeing in a vehicle, described only as a dark SUV, Stoney said. LAS VEGAS — Neighbors living in a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood were shocked to a see a home in their area vandalized with swastikas.Morley Fulgencio said he noticed the swastikas all over his garage, his driveway and the steps leading up to his front door when he was taking his daughter to school Thursday morning."I was flabbergasted," Fulgencio said.After a short drive around the neighborhood, Fulgencio realized that only his house was the one vandalized. He said he has no idea why his home was singled out.Fulgencio said he hopes this was just a prank. Neighbors rallied together to show support, knocking on his door to help. Neighbor Brian Judd even arranged for crews to clean up the vandalism for free. Fulgencio says he's been overwhelmed by the support, and that it shows the idea of Vegas Strong. "It shows whatever hatred is out there, it's outweighed by human kindness," Fulgencio said. No one has been arrested, and the incident remains under investigation according to police.  1062

Neither were his three renters when something came tearing through his home off La Mesa Blvd."My heart is pounding right now even thinking about it," said Jacob.A 9mm bullet pierced the screen and a double-glass sliding patio door in the back of the house, before flying past the living room and into a kitchen cabinet. A neighbor says she heard 12 gunshots just past midnight.Jacob says if he hadn't been out that night, he would have been sitting in the living room watching television - and right in the line of fire."Looking at the angle of the bullet, probably would have been right at my head. I'm speechless. I would have been dead," said Jacob.It's a chilling thought to go with his feelings of frustration. A 9mm bullet can travel upwards of a mile and a half. Jacob tells 10news the sound of New Year's Eve gunfire is nothing new, and he's fed up."Please think twice, there's other human beings in the neighborhood. It's just irresponsible.
