POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - He's got sticky fingers and a green thumb. A business owner says his Poway office has been repeatedly burglarized by a thief who steals plants, among other things. The man snatched succulents and pilfered a large plumeria in his latest visit to the Poway business on Adrian Street near Midland Road on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., according to owner Tom Belway. The grab-and-go gardener also disabled a surveillance camera and removed sensor lights, he said."This is the sixth or seventh time they have swept the property for any 'loose' items," Belway wrote on social media. "Previously they stole propane tanks, rocking chairs, construction materials and plants. One visit they had all of our outdoor furniture staged at the fence but they must have been interrupted."Down the street at the Park Church on Midland Road, pastor Andrew Henneforth said his church has been hit twice over the past two weeks. He said in the first incident, someone broke into a camper trailer and stole landscaping equipment and propane tanks. The second time, the thief hopped a fence and took a bicycle. There was a skateboard and drugs left behind, the pastor said."In this situation, am I a victim? Sure," Henneforth said. "But in some ways he's kind of a victim as well -- to addiction, to substance abuse."The church added security cameras after the second incident, he said. It's not clear if the two cases are related. Investigators tested a bottle of root beer left at church for DNA, the pastor said.Anyone with information should call the San Diego Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers. 1602

President Donald Trump described Oprah Winfrey as "very insecure" and accused her of "biased and slanted" after an interview on CBS's "60 Minutes" that addressed his presidency.Oprah hosted a group discussion with 14 voters who had appeared on the show in fall 2017 -- half who had voted for Trump and half who had not.The discussion looked at whether the the pro-Trump panelists still backed the President, his alleged "s***hole countries" comments, the worldview of the US under his leadership, questions around Trump's stability and fitness for office, and accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior.""Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes. The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect. Hope Oprah runs so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!" Trump tweeted after the show was broadcast. Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes. Political leaders on both sides of the aisle are stressing the importance of wearing masks. That now includes Republicans like Vice President Mike Pence and the governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson. On the Democratic side, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says a federal mandate on face coverings is long overdue.Rodica Damian, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Houston, tells us seeing prominent political figures accept masks will influence individual decisions.Damian says there's two main sources of what drives behavior, personality and social context. Identifying with a certain political group adds social context.“A lot of people who don't wear masks think they're not wearing masks because they're kind of independent thinking, but it's very likely they're also following social norms,” said Damian. “They're just following social norms of a group that thinks you shouldn't wear masks.”When it comes to personality, Damian says people who are more responsible, rule-following, and pro-social tend to wear masks. Those who don't may have higher levels of narcissism or be more impulsive.“We're all on a continuum, so I don't want to put people in categories, so depending on where you fall on that continuum on each of these traits, they're all going to feed into your decision,” said Damian.Damian says we should remember that across the country and across party lines, the majority of people are strongly in favor of wearing masks. 1465

President Donald Trump said on Monday he is choosing among five women to nominate to the Supreme Court by the end of the week, and is pushing for the nominee to be confirmed by Election Day.Trump said that he has had conversations with his potential nominees, and could meet with them in person later in the week.“I’d rather see it all take place before the election,” Trump said to reporters. The nominee would replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died on Friday after a bout with metastatic pancreatic cancer. No matter the nominee, they will face one of the most challenging nomination processes ever seen.Election Day is just 43 days away, which will make for a shorter nomination process than typically seen. Also, the Senate generally takes the weeks leading up to the election off to allow for senators to campaign. Nomination hearings might force senators to stay closer to Washington in the critical days leading to the election. The timing has both frustrated and stymied Democrats. In 2016, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would not consider President Barack Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died in February 2016. That left the Supreme Court down to eight justices for over an entire year. But this time, McConnell says its different with Republicans holding both the Senate and White House.“The American people re-elected our majority in 2016,” McConnell said. “They strengthened it further in 2018 because we pledged to work with President trump on the most critical issues facing our country. The federal judiciary was right at the top of the list. Ironically it was the democratic leader who went out of his way to declare the midterm 2018 elections a referendum on the handle of the Supreme Court."Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer fired back at McConnell."To decide it at this late moment is despicable and wrong and against democracy,” he said.McConnell and Trump could face hurdles from within the party. Republicans hold a 53-47 Senate advantage and a 50-50 tie would be broken by Vice President Mike Pence. If four Republicans choose to vote against a confirmation, the vote likely fails. So far, Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski have said they would wait until after the election to vote for a nominee. There are three other Republican senators, Mitt Romney, Chuck Grassley and Cory Gardner, whose vote is still in question. What these senators decide will likely determine whether Trump will be able to fulfill his wish of getting a nominee through by Election Day. 2568

President Donald Trump has been in office a little over a year now, but according to a survey from The New York Times, that's enough time for the sitting president to be ranked the worst in history. The 2018 Presidents & Executive Politics Presidential Greatness Survey ranked all 44 presidents in the history of the United States.Trump ranked at the bottom of the list, bumping James Buchanan, the president who played a key role in the Civil War, up to 43. Abraham Lincoln ranked first overall in the survey, which was the same as his ranking in the 2014 survey. The survey respondents were current and recent members of the President and Executive Politics Section of the American Political Science Association. Both Democratic scholars and Independents had Lincoln as their top president. Republican scholars ranked Washington as first and Lincoln as second. Democrats ranked Trump as 44th, Independents ranked him as 43rd, and Republicans ranked him as 40th.A few presidents' rankings shifted since the last survey in 2014. Barack Obama moved up from 18th to 8th.Bill Clinton's ranking plummeted from 8th to 13th and Andrew Jackson moved down 6 spots. The top 10 presidents: 1213
