(KGTV) -- A woman traveling with her daughter was arrested after Border Patrol agents found nearly 30 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in her car.The arrest and seizure occurred July 21 during a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 5 in San Clemente, Customs and Border Protection officials said.According to CBP officials, an agent patrolling the area stopped a 2003 Honda Accord and asked the 38-year-old female driver for permission to search the car.After obtaining permission, the agent’s K-9 was alerted to something, prompting an in-depth inspection. The agent then found 28 bundles of meth inside the Accord’s gas tank.CBP officials said the bundles, weighing a total of 28.88 pounds, all tested positive for methamphetamine. The drugs were turned over to the DEA, and Border Patrol agents seized the car.Agents arrested the woman, a U.S. citizen; her six-year-old daughter was placed with child protective services. 933

(KGTV) — A recent study may cause pause at the dinner table this holiday season for millions of Americans.The study by the New England Journal of Medicine claims that nearly one in two adults (49 percent) will be obese by 2030, with obesity rates being at least 35 percent in every state and higher than 50 percent in 29 states. Nearly one in four adults are projected to have severe obesity by 2030. Bryan LeBaron said Thursday U.S. officials told the family that two suspects had been detained in the United States, but did not specify what role they had played in the Nov. 4 ambush attack. Earlier this week, prosecutors said more than 40 suspects have now been identified in connection with the killings of the extended Langford and LeBaron families who have lived in northern Mexico for decades. Three mothers and six children were killed; eight others were injured. The victims were dual citizens of Mexico and the United States, and part of a Mormon community of about 3,000 members living in Mexico. Is it a reduction in funding or eliminating departments? So far, the calls have included both."There are some advocates who would like to see a police-free environment in a lot of cities," Scripps National Political Editor Joe St. George tells 10News' Jon Horn. "Now for some people that is a terrifying thought. Police help prevent theft, they prevent violent crime. So it is something that is certainly going to be a hotly contested political issue."RELATED: San Diego City Council approves budget, adds Office on Race & EquitySt. George added that both Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden have both said they do not support calls to "defund the police," so the issue may fall on local cities.Policy proposals are still in the early stages. Supporters of the movement say they'd like to see less patrolling and reaction to major needs. But critics say patrolling helps prevent crimes from happening.If budget reductions are in the mix, depending on the amount, departments can either expect layoffs or a shift in priorities, according to St. George."If you're talking millions of dollars worth of cuts to a police department, there will have to be layoffs. If you're talking a couple hundred thousand, perhaps they would shift priorities from one program to another," St. George says.In San Diego, locals voiced their calls for decreasing the police department's budget for the 2021 fiscal year. City leaders voted Monday to approve the budget, which will increase SDPD's budget to 6 million.In contrast, Minneapolis' City Council has voiced intentions to disband the local department, calling their current department unreformable.
