BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called for steady advance of the country's Belt and Road Initiative to benefit people along the routes.

He said the new development concepts -- proposed in the country's roadmap for social and economic development for 2016-2020 -- shall be integrated throughout the entire process of China's social and economic development and its efforts to build a "moderately prosperous society" in an all-round way.

At an exhibition on the city's recovery and development over the past four decades, he noted that Tangshan had a lot to gain from the Belt and Road Initiative and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development.

At a national conference this week on poverty alleviation through east-west cooperation in Ningxia's capital city Yinchuan, Xi urged developed regions in the east to help their partner regions in the west better fight poverty.

Some of them suggested actively participating in international cooperation and big science programs, with forward-looking and reasonable planning.
