For years, millennials have been called out for job hopping and always looking for the next best thing. So, what’s causing the job hop and what can companies do to retain their younger employees?Charlie Harding is the CEO of Let’s Roam and he’s a millennial. He says he knows what the 30-somethings are looking for when it comes to a job."If a company is rigid and inflexible, it allows employees to job hunt or job hop, especially millennials," he says.However, the job market is tight right now and it’s giving millennials the option to choose the job that’s right for them. That could be part of the reason why they are job hopping.“They have a ton of confidence that if they were to leave that it would be OK,” says Karen Policastro, with the international recruiting firm Robert Half. “And if they go somewhere and it didn’t work out, they could just go somewhere else.”Millennials are in the driver seat and want new and unique experiences.Policastro says there’s a lot of competition, and millennials are looking for bigger paychecks, work life balance, healthy company culture, potential for career growth and a manager that values them.“If they aren’t getting it where they are, they are quick to leave,” Policastro says.Seventy-five percent of employees ages 18 to 34 view job hopping as beneficial compared to 51 percent of workers 55 and older.“I think there is a stigma that there is a lack of trust and loyalty,” Harding explains. “But it’s really up to the company to build that trust and loyalty. If they are leaving, it’s not because of the employee; it’s because of the company."No matter the generation, Harding believes it’s fairly simple for companies to retain employees.“If you are able to make employees happy and have a strong leader and understand what they want and how you can help them accomplish their goals, then you can do that,” Harding says. 1888

Forgetting to keep your Christmas tree watered could have deadly consequences, according to the National Fire Protection Association. According to the NFPA, nearly 160 house fires per year are sparked by Christmas trees. These fires caused an average of three deaths, 15 injuries, and million in direct property damage annually, the NFPA said. A plurality of Christmas tree fires from 2013 through 2017, roughly 44 percent, were caused by electrical distribution or lighting within the tree. Another 25 percent of Christmas tree fires were from a heat source, such as a candle, being too close to a tree. The NFPA also found that 21 percent of Christmas tree fires were intentionally set. In 2017, the National Institute of Science and Technology released a video showing the fire danger a tree not watered can pose. The video showed that a spark to a dry tree could ignite an entire tree within several seconds, engulfing an entire room seconds later. A watered tree failed to ignite in the same fashion. Although buying an artificial tree likely decreases the risk of a fire, for every three fires sparked by a real Christmas tree, one is caused by an artificial tree.The National Fire Protection Association released Christmas tree fire prevention tips:· Choose a tree with fresh, green needles that do not fall off when touched.· Before placing the tree in the stand, cut 2” from the base of the trunk.· Make sure the tree is at least three feet away from any heat source, like fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights.· Make sure the tree is not blocking an exit.· Add water to the tree stand. Be sure to add water daily.· Use lights that have the label of a recognized testing laboratory. Some lights are only for indoor or outdoor use.· Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections. HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A grandmother in Hillsborough County, Florida, is facing several charges after she caused a crash that killed her 10-month-old granddaughter, according to Florida Highway Patrol. According to an accident report, Helen Mention, 50, was drunk when she crashed into a guardrail on Friday, Oct. 25 at 9 a.m. Her blood alcohol level was .225, FHP says. That's nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08. Troopers say Mention was driving with 10-month-old Harlem Mention on her lap. She was turning from Mango Road onto westbound I-4 when she crashed into a guardrail. Harlem was taken to Tampa General with critical injuries. She died a few days later on Oct. 28, according to FHP. Mention was arrested Monday and charged with DUI manslaughter, aggravated manslaughter of a child, careless driving and a violation of Florida's child restraint law. 883
