The way doctors treat asthma in both children and adults just got a major update.Speaking to the Journal of the American Medical Association, respiratory experts said the changes in guidelines focus on six key areas, including improving asthma diagnosis, management, and treatment.It’s the first published update in 13 years.“So, one of the goals of our update was to address the issue of who can use intermittent inhaled corticosteroids and when used, are they as effective as daily use,” said Michelle M. The toy run in December is usually one of the big ways Children's Hospital Colorado gets donated toys. But because of COVID-19, the supply of toys is down considerably. So the hospital reached out to some riders, and Sunday, they got a special delivery to help replenish that supply.Kids at Children's Hospital know when they hear those Harley engines roar, toys are on the way."Any motorcycles coming up to the hospital, the kids plaster themselves the windows. They love to see the bikes riding up," volunteer Bob Cuculich said."That's why we do it. It's things like this that make it all worthwhile," organizer Eddie Dane said.But it's not December when this toy run usually happens."Because of COVID this year, the hospital reached out to Rocky Mountain Harley Davidson, because we're a sponsor to the toy run and have been for years," Dane said.Dozens of bikers answered the last minute call to help."They're not reusing toys. So we are are going to replenish their supply and do the best we can to get them some more toys to last them until December," Dane said.They didn't know how many bikers would show. They just knew they needed to try to help the kids."There's a huge need," Cuculich said.But the roars were there, filling up the bins, and they hope more toys can be brought. Just no stuffed animals right now."Plush toys right now, they are just too hard to keep clean, and infection control just makes it a challenge to be able to give those to the kids," Cuculich added.The bikers hope this special delivery makes the kids happy and lasts until the main ride in December. The Royal Oak Police Department has completed our internal investigation into the August 13 incident involving an African American man and the Royal Oak police.On behalf of the police department, I would like to apologize to Mr. Myers for how he was treated. What should have been a very short encounter was extended when the officer involved insisted on getting Mr. Myers' identification. The officer had no legal right to demand the identification and should have simply advised Mr. Myers why we were there and allowed him to go on his way. The officer involved is a new, probationary officer and he made a mistake. This officer will be provided with remedial training to address this issue.Early in this encounter, Mr. Myers requested a supervisor make the scene. Although the first officer did not call for a supervisor, the second officer on scene did.The responding supervisor did not handle this situation in a manner I expect Royal Oak supervisors to conduct themselves. He did quickly advise Mr. Myers that he was free to go; however, he did not effectively look into the situation or allow those present the opportunity to express their concerns.This is not the practice of the Royal Oak Police Department and it is not acceptable. The supervisor has been disciplined and every Royal Oak police supervisor has received additional training in procedural justice.This incident stemmed from a 911 call in which the caller reported she was uncomfortable because a male subject was circling her vehicle, staring at her from across the street, and was possibly taking pictures of her and her son. In total, Mr. Myers was verbally detained for approximately 19 minutes. A supervisor was called to the scene, per Mr. Myers request, about 6 minutes into the encounter and the supervisor arrived approximately 11 minutes later (17 minutes into the encounter). Mr. Myers was advised he was free to go 2 minutes after that.This is an unfortunate incident where the ROPD did not live up to our own standards.Corrective action has been taken and we will continue to hold all members of the ROPD to the highest standards. 2124

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to warn against eating any romaine lettuce harvested from the central Coastal growing regions of Northern and Central California amid a multistate outbreak of E. coli illnesses linked to romaine lettuce. The agency also reported Thursday that nine additional people have been reported ill since November 26.Now, 52 people have been infected with E. coli in this outbreak, which was announced in October, according to the CDC.Illnesses have been reported in 15 states: California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.Nineteen people have been hospitalized, including two who developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure. No deaths have been reported.Last month, the CDC and the US Food and Drug Administration updated their warning against eating or selling romaine lettuce products harvested in the California counties of Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and Ventura. 1110
