Delta's decision to cut ties with the NRA could cost it a generous tax break from the state of Georgia. The state's Republicans — including a major candidate for governor— are threatening to kill part of a bill that would eliminate a state tax on jet fuel. If it passes, the provision is expected to save the Atlanta-based airline tens of millions of dollars."We felt that it was wrong for them to single out one company," said Chuck Hufstetler, chairman of the state's Senate Finance Committee. Delta on Saturday announced that it would end discounted rates for National Rifle Association members.Hufstetler told CNN on Monday that if the airline does not reverse its stance on the NRA soon, he and others will push for the tax break to be stripped from the bill. The bill still needs to pass the Senate before it can be signed into law.If Delta holds its ground, he added, "I don't think [the bill] will pass as it is."The bill was until recently on track to earn approval from lawmakers.Georgia's House of Representatives voted in favor of the legislation last week. It also won over Republican Governor Nathan Deal, who called the measure an important part of the state's tax reform plan that would "keep Georgia competitive as a major international hub of commerce."Deal said at the time that he was "confident" in the bill's speedy passage.Things changed over the weekend.Delta became one of several companies — others include United Airlines and Hertz — to abandon its relationship with the NRA after a school shooting in Florida two weeks ago left 17 dead. That shooting has sparked renewed public debate over gun laws and reform.Delta said in a statement Saturday that the decision "reflects the airline's neutral status in the current national debate over gun control." It did not immediately respond Monday to CNN's request for comment.Georgia Republicans quickly rebuked the airline's decision.Georgia Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, a frontrunner in the state's gubernatorial race this year, vowed to "kill any tax legislation" that helps Delta unless it reverses course."Corporations cannot attack conservatives and expect us not to fight back," he tweeted.Rick Jeffares, a Republican who is running for lieutenant governor, also criticized the airline."Delta is now seeking a MILLION TAX BREAK from the Georgia Legislature," he posted on his campaign website. "Should Delta be rewarded for their attack on the NRA? I say "NO!"Since Thursday, more than a dozen brands have severed ties with the NRA. In a statement on Saturday, the NRA called those decisions "a shameful display of political and civic cowardice."Other companies have stood firm in their relationships with the gun group.FedEx is keeping its discount for NRA members in place, saying Monday that it "has never set or changed rates for any of our millions of customers around the world in response to their politics, beliefs or positions on issues."And the streaming platform Roku, which carries the online video channel NRATV, said last week that customers can choose which channels to download or watch."We operate an open streaming platform, however our content policies prohibit the publication of content that is unlawful, incites illegal activities or violates third-party rights," spokesperson Tricia Mifsud said at the time. 3339

Michelle Obama's new book "Becoming" has sold more than 1.4 million copies in all formats during the first seven days since it hit shelves on November 13.The former first lady's memoir about her Chicago roots and her time in the White House is also popular overseas, where it's a bestseller in Europe and Scandinavia and the No. 1 adult nonfiction title in the U.K., according to publisher Penguin Random House, which announced the milestone on Wednesday. After five printings of the hardcover edition, there will be 3 million copies in print in the Canada and the U.S., the publisher said. This feat follows another milestone earlier in the week, when Barnes & Noble announced that "Becoming" gave the bookseller "the biggest first-week sales of any book this year."Until November, that title belonged to Bob Woodward's Trump administration dissection, "Fear," which came out in September. But "Becoming" had even stronger sales in its first week, the bookseller said.Beyond just this year, B&N said "Becoming" had "the best first-week sales of an adult book since 'Go Set a Watchman' published in July, 2015."It has been nearly two years since the Obamas left the White House, but there is still intense interest in the former president and first lady."Becoming" remains No. 1 on the online lists kept by both the Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites. Her book landed in Amazon's No. 1 spot on Friday, November 9, and has not budged since.A gauntlet of TV interviews, including all three network morning shows, surely helped sales. The interviews will continue later this month. On Friday, November 30, she will be on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.""Becoming" is almost certain to rank No. 1 on the New York Times best selling books list, which comes out later on Wednesday. All the interest in the title — plus her nationwide arena tour — has stoked new speculation about her political prospects. Is there any chance she'd run for political office?"Let me be very clear, it will never happen," Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett told Alisyn Camerota on "New Day" Monday morning. As for Obama's husband, he is working on finishing his own memoir. Both books were acquired by Penguin Random House in a bidding war back in early 2017."Writing's hard," Barack Obama said at his foundation's annual summit on Monday. "I'm just sitting there, I type two words... delete."His remarks about the difficulties of writing were reported by The Atlantic. He reportedly told people to go buy his wife's book. 2531

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – There’s a hidden gem right off the I-5 freeway in Mission Hills that took over 20 years to create. “It’s just been a wonderful thing,” said Edna Harper, designer of Harper’s Topiary Garden. Her garden sits on the massive hillside of her home and has been attracting visitors for years. More than 50 whimsical characters are featured, each one inspired by Harper’s world travels. The project started as a bet between Harper and her husband."My husband said to me, 'Oh, I don't think you can do this,'" Harper said. "He didn't know how much it was gonna cost him ... he said, 'alright if you win, I'll pay for the gardener and the water.'" In addition to the elephants, the garden also has characters like cats, puppies, a whale, and Harper’s favorite: the hitchhiker. Harper’s gardener Pedro has been helping to bring her visions to life. “My favorite part is seeing all the people come by and take pictures,” Harper said. The garden has become her canvas and a place for your imagination to run wild. “Whatever you want it to be, that’s what my garden is,” Harper said. “It makes people happy, and that makes me happy.” If you decide to visit the property off Vine and Union in Mission Hills, the owners ask that you don’t climb or destroy the plans. They also suggest taking pictures from across the street to get the full view. 1638
