A Key deer fawn was rescued from a brush fire Sunday in the Florida Keys.  Monroe County Fire Rescue firefighter Jen Shockley responded to the brush fire in Big Pine Key shortly after it started Sunday afternoon.While protecting a home and with the fire moving rapidly, Shockley rescued the fawn.“I jumped into the flames and saved the little guy,” Shockley said in a written statement. “He was all by himself and running for his life into the fire.”The uninjured Key deer was given oxygen, water and wrapped in a sheet. 538

A man placed under suicide protocol has died in police custody.Early Sunday, Maryland State Police was contacted by the Carroll County Sheriffs Office, to investigate an in custody death.Officials say the detainee was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on first degree assault charges. No details on the arrestee's identity have been released, pending next of kin notification.Maryland State Police Homicide detectives have taken the lead in the investigation.   510

A joint statement released by federal and state officials on Thursday described last week’s presidential election as the “most secure in American history” despite calls from President Donald Trump’s campaign that the election was “stolen.”The letter was signed by leaders of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the National Association of State Election Directors, among others. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency was established two years ago as a branch of Homeland Security during the Trump administration.In bold, the authors of the statement wrote, “There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.” This statement matches those from secretaries of state and boards of election throughout the US.“The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history,” the statement reads. “Right now, across the country, election officials are reviewing and double checking the entire election process prior to finalizing the result.”The group says that claims of election fraud are “unfounded.”“While we know there are many unfounded claims and opportunities for misinformation about the process of our elections, we can assure you we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and you should too,” the statement read. “When you have questions, turn to elections officials as trusted voices as they administer elections.”Earlier this week, CNN among other outlets, reported that the Department of Justice, under Attorney General Bill Barr’s direction, was launching an investigation into voting irregularities. A gunman opened fire inside of a Cheltenham Township, Pa. Walmart on Tuesday, leaving five people shot and several others with non-gunshot injuries, NBC Philadelphia reported, citing law enforcement officials. The incident took place around 6:15 p.m., and has since been contained. Eyewitnesses told NBC Philadelphia that the shooting took place at a cash register inside of Walmart.A gunman reportedly took the gun out of his waistband and shot five people during an altercation. A pregnant woman, who was not shot, was injured trying to get away. Two police officers were also injured during a fight trying to apprehend the suspect. The gunman reportedly fired 10 gunshots inside of the Walmart before fleeing. All eight victims are expected to survive. Two people were taken into custody after the suspected gunman and a possible accomplice tried to flee.  917

A Glendale, Arizona mother has been arrested after reportedly leaving her toddler in a car for 90 minutes while she went shopping. Glendale police report that around 9 p.m. Monday, they were called to a shopping plaza at 91st and Northern avenues. Witnesses reported to police that there was a toddler in a car with no adult around. Police found the 2-year-old boy, "crying, dirty and covered in urine." The child's mother, 19-year-old Dakota Cheyanne Brown, was located in a nearby store. She allegedly told police that she was in the store for about 45 minutes and was checking on him by looking out the store window. Police say the car windows were darkly tinted and they couldn't see inside, even from a few feet away. Store employees allegedly told police that Brown was in the store for about 90 minutes. Store surveillance video reportedly shows that Brown never left the store to check on her son. Brown was arrested for endangerment and child abuse. 1011
