LOS ANGELES (KGTV) - An alleged serial rapist accused of attacking seven women while posing as a rideshare driver will be charged next month in Los Angeles.The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office said Nicolas Morales, 44, targeted women in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Alhambra, and West Hollywood.The crimes happened between October 2016 and last January, according to KABC.Morales faces 27 felony counts including rape, forcible oral copulation, sodomy by use of force, sexual penetration by a foreign object, and attempted kidnapping. He also used a knife in the crimes, officials said.Prosecutors did not provide details about the crimes. They asked for bail to be set at .3 million.If convicted, Morales faces a maximum possible sentence of 300 years to life in state prison and lifetime sex offender registration.An arraignment scheduled for Tuesday was postponed until March 8. 902

(KGTV) -- The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department identified the scuba diver found dead nine miles off the coast of Long Beach on the ocean floor as Henry Cook, 55, of La Jolla.Cook was scuba diving near an oil platform Saturday afternoon with another diver when something went wrong.Deputies got a "diver in distress" call 12:30 p.m. Saturday near oil platform Elly.A Los Angeles Sheriff’s helicopter responded and hoisted a scuba diver out of a Lifeguard boat, then flew the diver to Catalina Island and was treated in a hyperbaric chamber.Sunday, searchers returned to the area with a remote-controlled underwater robot and located Cook’s body on the ocean floor 200-feet down.Los Angeles County is conducting an autopsy to determine how Cook died. 780

Lorenzo Liberti is a teenage flag maker."The day that I stop working is a day that a hero could be forgotten," says the 15-year-old from Lakewood Ranch.Using pinewood and prodigious talent, Lorenzo works day and night in his garage hand-carving Heroic Flags, gorgeous, time-consuming tributes to American heroes he sells and donates to help people in need."As long as you're living, you're here for a purpose," he says.Lorenzo has only been creating the flags for the past eight months or so. He's made about 50 so far and raised thousands of dollars for children with special needs, homeless veterans, and Bradenton's Turning Points nonprofit."This is bigger than me," he says.The pandemic has inspired Lorenzo's newest mission: honoring medical workers across the country.He's raising money to try and get one of his flags in a hospital in every state: 50 flags, all across America. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The ShakeAlertLA app that drew criticism for not notifying users during the July 4 and 5 earthquakes will begin sending alerts for smaller quakes, officials announced Wednesday.Starting this month, the early warning system will alert residents of Garcetti, CalTech and the United States Geological Survey. The previous threshold was magnitude 5.0.``Every day we are communicating the importance of preparedness, so that every Angeleno has the tools and resources they need to build a better life, and then protect that life when disaster strikes,'' Garcetti said.``Updates to ShakeAlertLA will result in an even more responsive application, making our city stronger and our families safer.''The USGS ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System for the West Coast detects significant earthquakes quick enough that ShakeAlerts can reach people a few seconds before shaking starts.``The USGS, through its scientific expertise, creates ShakeAlert earthquake early warnings, but in order to be successful, our public and private partners must develop technologies to use and distribute the alerts,'' said Doug Given, the USGS' earthquake early warning coordinator.ShakeAlertLA was developed in collaboration with USGS, AT&T and The Annenberg Foundation to combine USGS sensor network with mobile app technology, according to the Mayor's Office.
