BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland will provide Taiwan with human H7N9 avian influenza virus strain, allowing the two sides to jointly explore new detection and prevention methods, mainland health authorities said Thursday.

The spokesman said all parties concerned should advance the integration process in line with the principle of openness, inclusiveness and transparency and in a step-by-step manner.

"China adheres to a road of peaceful development and pursues a national defense policy with a defensive nature," spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a regular press conference, adding that China is transparent in its military's strategic intent and poses no threat to any country.

"The BRICS Forum offers member states the opportunity of amplifying voices for political, financial, economic and social interests around common goals and development agenda based on shared values."

Xu Jianguo, a researcher with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said on Sunday that the chance of a major H7N9 outbreak is slim, although the situation must not be taken lightly and monitoring should be intensified.
