SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Live Nation and the city of El Cajon Tuesday announced a Sept. 13 opening date for the recently renovated East County Performing Arts Center, which has been renamed The Magnolia. The 1,200-seat theater will open with "Countess Luann and Friends,'' a cabaret show starring Luann de Lesseps of "Real Housewives of New York City'' fame.Live Nation, which will operate, book and market The Magnolia, also confirmed future performances by Pat Benatar, Dream Theater, Patti Labelle and Art Garfunkel, among others, with dates booked through March 2020."This is a special moment for not only El Cajon but the entire San Diego region,'' said El Cajon City Manager Graham Mitchell. "The completely renovated Magnolia represents another jewel in the continued growth of the entire region.''The city of El Cajon shuttered the performing arts center in 2009 amid the recession in an effort to cut budget expenditures. Since then, Live Nation has renovated the theater's interior, adding a VIP lounge, new bars and added legroom between rows."The Magnolia will offer an amazing elevated entertainment opportunity for both artists and music fans,'' said Ben Weeden, chief operating officer of Live Nation's clubs and theaters division. "In addition to a spectacular outdoor Plaza Bazaar featuring unique pre-and post-show dining, the theater will offer new state-of-the-art sound, lighting and projection systems. We're thrilled to join the El Cajon team.''To buy tickets for upcoming shows and see the full lineup, go to magnoliasandiego.com. 1554

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Four men allegedly bringing several dozen pounds of drugs through the coastal North County were arrested today following a road chase from Solana Beach to Carlsbad, authorities said. The pursuit began about 10:30 a.m., when detectives tried to pull over a vehicle with five people in it on Interstate 5 near Lomas Santa Fe Drive, according to sheriff's officials. The driver refused to yield, continuing on to the north for about four miles before exiting onto Encinitas Boulevard, Sgt. Bill Kerr said. There, one of the passengers, 24-year-old Gabriel Albert Delosreyes, got out of the vehicle and allegedly made a futile attempt to escape on foot.As deputies chased down Delosreyes, the fleeing driver -- later identified as Juan Manuel Villalobos, 28 -- got back onto I-5 and went north for several more miles, then exited at La Costa Avenue and headed east along the southern shoreline of Batiquitos Lagoon, Kerr said.Reaching a residential area off Levante Street and Caminito Monarca, just east of El Camino Real, Villalobos pulled over, jumped out of the vehicle and ran off with his remaining companions. One of the four, an unidentified woman, managed to escape, but deputies quickly captured Villalobos along with cohorts Marcos Martinez, 34, and 26-year-old Eddie Anthony Navarro.Inside the trunk of the car Villalobos had been driving, deputies found a truck tire with 25 1/2 pounds of methamphetamine stashed inside it, according to Kerr."Small amounts of other drugs were also found on the suspects,'' the sergeant said. The arrestees were expected to face various criminal charges, including possession of an illicit narcotic for sale, illegal transportation of a controlled substance and conspiracy. 1736

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Wednesday for help in identifying a motorist involved in a Linda Vista-area hit-and-run that left three people injured three weeks ago.The fugitive driver lost control of a black Honda while trying to make a right-hand turn from eastbound Linda Vista Road right turn onto Goshen Street at high speed shortly before 11 p.m. Oct. 12, according to San Diego police. The sedan skidded across the roadway, crashed broadside into a car stopped for a stop sign at the intersection and pushed the vehicle into a fire hydrant. Following the wreck, the driver of the damaged Honda steered back onto Linda Vista Road and fled to the east. The victims, two men and a woman in their 20s, were treated for various injuries, including concussions, police said.No description of the driver has been released.Anyone with information about the case is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to ,000. 1092

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Four local restaurants and gyms are suing the state and county over its coronavirus restrictions as a shutdown of indoor operations looms for many county businesses. The lawsuit was filed Thursday in San Diego Superior Court on behalf of Cowboy Star Restaurant and Butcher Shop, Home & Away Encinitas, Fit Athletic Club and Bear Republic. The suit comes as San Diego County is slated to shut down indoor operations for nonessential businesses at midnight due to its recent entry into the most restrictive, purple tier of the state's coronavirus reopening plan. The businesses allege that San Diego's increased case numbers are not a result of exposures at restaurants, gyms and other types of businesses that will be impacted by the impending closures. The lawsuit cites recent figures indicating restaurants/bars, retail businesses, places of worship, schools and gyms make up a small percentage of confirmed community outbreaks.San Diego County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten recently submitted an adjudication request to the state seeking to have San Diego County remain in the red tier. The request was rejected by the state last week."Penalizing the impacted sectors for case increases is wrong, as these sectors continue to do the right things, while trying to weather the ongoing pandemic and the back forth of reopenings," Wooten's request states. The businesses allege in their complaint that they may be forced to shut down permanently if the shutdown is not averted. Each business said it has had to undergo significant closures due to the pandemic, despite abiding by public health orders and implementing safety measures to remain in compliance with the orders. 1708

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was fatally shot just outside his family's home in the Paradise Hills community of San Diego, a police lieutenant said Saturday. The shooting occurred around 10:35 p.m. Friday outside a home in the 2400 block of Calle Gaviota, said Lt. Anthony Dupree of the San Diego Police Department. Dupree said the shooting victim's family reported to police that the man went outside the home, and a short time later, relatives heard gunshots.Family members went outside and saw the victim down. A witness reported seeing a man wearing dark clothing running from the area after the shots were heard, Dupree said.Paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, he said. The San Diego Police Department asked anyone with any information regarding the shooting to call them at 619-531-2293. 827
