The total street value of the narcotics is more than million. The narcotics were found strapped to individuals' bodies and hidden in areas of vehicles, like gas tanks, trunks, seats, and quarter panels, according to CBP."These are impressive results and no matter what is occurring in the country, CBP officers remain vigilant," said San Diego CBP Director of Field Operations, Pete Flores. "CBP officers’ determination and instincts led to the confiscation of these drugs to keep our country safe."CBP says some of the most significant seizures included:June 4: 11,000 lbs. of marijuana in a shipment of limes seized at the Otay Mesa cargo Port of EntryJune 8: 43 lbs. of fentanyl pills and meth hidden in the quarter panels and trunk of a vehicle at the Andrade Port of EntryJune 17: Nearly 21,000 lbs. of marijuana discovered in a shipment of electronics at the Otay Mesa cargo facilityJune 24: 134 lbs. of meth found in doors, quarter panels, and gas tank of a vehicle at the Calexico West Port of EntryJune 24: 104 lbs. of cocaine found hidden in a compartment behind the backseats of a vehicle at the San Sedro Port of Entry 1529

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - While many Americans may be divided on whether they will get a COVID-19 vaccine once one is available, National City’s mayor is about to be part of the trial process.“I’m excited, kind of nervous,” said National City Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis. “As a leader, I will step up, physically, mentally, and emotionally for my community because we need to be part of the solution.”After learning more about Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen Phase 3 vaccine trial happening in National City, Sotelo-Solis said she decided the right move was to apply to become a trial participant herself.“I believe, as a leader, you should demonstrate trust in the system,” she said. “I was able to ask more detailed questions; I am a survivor of melanoma cancer, you know, getting all those questions answered. I will be an active participant in the vaccine trial starting Friday.”Johnson & Johnson is aiming to recruit 60,000 people worldwide to take part in its trial. UC San Diego is participating in the study locally and looking to enroll 2,000 volunteers.Trailers that act as a vaccine clinic have been set up at El Toyon Park in National City, and the trial resumed last week.Across the county, Hispanic and Latino communities have been hit the hardest by COVID-19. The Chicano Federation has been working as part of the San Diego Latino Health Coalition to address the issues and provide helpful information about vaccine trials.“One of the things we recognized early on is that our Spanish speaking community and Latino community here in San Diego needed more education about vaccine trials,” said Nancy Maldonado, President, and CEO of the Chicano Federation. “We want our community, particularly our Spanish speaking community, to have all the education they need around the vaccine and around vaccine trials.”Maldonado said the goal is to make sure Southbay residents have the information they need to make informed decisions, and she applauds Sotelo-Solis for her efforts.“One of the best ways to gain trust is to lead by example and not ask someone to do something that you wouldn’t do yourself,” said Maldonado.“If I can help someone trust in vaccine trials and medical systems as a whole, we can really start chipping away at building true and significant trust,” said Sotelo-Solis.Sotelo-Solis said she will have her blood drawn and get a shot as part of the trial on Friday morning.UCSD is still recruiting participants for this trial. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Trips to the grocery store can be tough on the wallets of families trying to make it in San Diego.According to the USDA, a family of four can spend anywhere between 0 and ,300 a month on groceries alone. The bigger the family, the more you spend. San Marcos resident Melanie Anderson says the grocery bill for her family of six was around ,500 a month.“I went to the store with no plan. I would go there and let the store tell me what I needed,” Anderson said.RELATED: USDA's meal planning guide for stretching your food budgetAnderson, a stay-at-home mom of four children, said she and her husband were interested in traveling more so they decided to take a look at their budget.“I realized I wanted to save money so that I could spend it on unforgettable things,” Anderson said.Once all the numbers were in place, they realized they could make changes to their grocery bill.RELATED: Ocean Beach duo cook up 'foodie' meals on a day budget“We were wasting food, we were throwing away food, we weren't planning,” said Anderson. Now the family spends between 0 and 0 a month on groceries.Anderson says her strategy is 'meal planning in reverse'. She focuses on creating dishes around the food she already has and only buying meat, bread, and produce that are marked down or on clearance. One of her biggest tips is calling the grocery stores in advance.RELATED: How to budget when you're on an inconsistent income“First, call the grocery store and ask them what time do you clearance whatever item you’re looking for. Whether it’s the meat department, ask to speak to the meat department. If you’re specifically looking for organic produce, ask that. They are very agreeable in letting you know that information.” Anderson said. According to Anderson, the system is faster than her old trips to the store. “I blaze in there, I look at the produce, I look at the deli meat, I look at the regular meat, the bakery items and I am out of there in ten minutes,” Anderson said. RELATED: San Diego woman climbs out of 3,000 debt holeSome of the items in her fridge include organic mushrooms, usually .99, marked down to .49. The lettuce she bought marked at .49, cases of wine for less than , ground turkey for .99 and ham on clearance for .99. Anderson is now a budget-savvy blogger and documents her grocery store savings and other ways to cut down your budget on her website and Facebook page, Six On A Budget. Her followers are now posting their grocery store victories. “They send me pictures of everything in their grocery cart. They’ll say I used to spend 0, now I spend 0. It’s so satisfying,” Anderson said. RELATED: San Diego ShortFall tool: Can you make ends meet?Anderson suggests heading to the grocery store early to get the best deals. She also says you should double check the 'sell by', 'use by', and 'best by' dates because you usually have a few days to use certain items before they go bad. Anderson also recommend you get creative in the kitchen with sites like Supercook where you can plug in ingredients you already have for recipe ideas. If you prefer to create a shopping list before you head to the store, the USDA has budgeting tips and suggested menus to help you save money. 3340
